My husband and I decided to take a road trip to the caverns in the early spring. We had perfect weather and a great time.

Upon check-in we received cookies and water and were able to check in early. Rooms were clean, lobby was nice, and breakfast was actually pretty good. We didn't have much interaction with the employees, but when we did they were very pleasant. We spent some time and the pool/hot tub, small, but nice.

I would stay here again if I ever went back to Carlsbad.

PS - You must try to hike/tour the Slaughter Canyon Trail. AWESOME.

Hotel allowed us to check in early which was great after a long day on the road and service was good and room was clean. The hallway was very quiet at night to sleep. Front desk was very nice. Cleaning people was very friendly.

I have been fortunate to visit many resort areas in the USA and Canada. In my opinion, $250.00 per night should buy you a very nice room in a comfortable setting. Carlsbad is in the middle of the oil patch right now, so hotels are flush with long term leases and they are "getting what the traffic will bear". That's how the market works, but travelers should know what to expect. At this hotel, a "suite" is a regular size room with a partial wall that divides it into two very small areas. The bedroom is completely filled by the king bed and TV table. The sofa bed fills the "living room" so full that the desk and chair are completely unusable since there is no room to pull the chair out from under the desk. We reserved the room for four persons, but the hotel only left towels and provisions for three. And, yes I know I could have requested more, but for that price I should not have to ask.

The hotel is a Fairfield, so the public areas are well appointed. The breakfast area was large enough and finding a table was possible after the long term leases went off to work. The breakfast selection was enjoyed by the grandboys. The very small outdoor pool was occupied in the evening by a very large dog that belonged to one of the long term residents.

It is too bad that such a national treasure as Carlsbad Caverns can only be enjoyed if you stay in Carlsbad. If I visit again in the future, I will look at other lodging options.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel very much -- very clean and well decorated. Comfortable beds and in a very good location to venture over to the National Park and go into the caverns! The staff were friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was very good . . . eggs, sausage patties, waffles, yogurt, cereal, several types and styles of breads to make toast, etc., etc. It was a huge, delicious breakfast. I highly recommend this hotel.

Clean, secure wit the typical decorated rooms, business areas and breakfast services. One of the few places i would stay in Carlsbad NM! However, Marriott corporate management should consider enforcing some sort of pricing rules! This is far from a resort town even though it has a boom of business from the oil fields. It does not seem proper to treat the guests like "highway robery" on the pricing!

Room Tip: ask for a room facing the pool as the rooms in front a noisy from the traffic

First, the good news: the hotel was spotless, and the bed was very comfortable. The room is modern and up-to-date, with a flat-screen TV and free wireless Internet. There's an outdoor pool, which isn't a real problem, since the area is typically hot and dry. It's also at the south end of town, which is convenient if you need to be at the caverns early for a morning hike (we went on the 9AM Left Hand Tunnel tour).

While the hotel was clean and comfortable, there were a few drawbacks. First, the hotel was way overpriced, compared to other hotels in southeast New Mexico. Hotels in Roswell and Alamogordo were about 60% of the price, and equally nice, if not nicer. Second, the hotel is in a somewhat sketchy part of town, between the WalMart and an IHOP - good if you want to walk to WalMart, but not if you want a good neighborhood. Third, the breakfast was just average. We ate at the hotel the first morning, but skipped breakfast the second morning in favor of the IHOP. We had a room in the back of the hotel, so it wasn't too loud, but I've heard that the front of the hotel is loud because it fronts on the main (4-lane) road thru town.

The hotel is so so and charges 175$ per night or more. Carlsbad is an oil boom town and prices are super over inflated. The room was ok, nothing nice. Loud, too much light from outside. Bibles laying everywhere. The free breakfast was standard. Next time I would get a room in the back.

Room Tip: Get one in the back away from the road and sunrise.
