We stayed at this hotel during spring break this year. It was overpriced for the accommodations that was provided. The room was small but OK, but dirty linen was left in bathroom. The breakfast was better than average. The staff was not particularly friendly and I was left with the impression that they really didn't care whether we stayed there or the Hampton. Our stay was OK but certainly did not live up to our expectations of this hotel chain.

My sorry we didn't meet your expectations. As far as price Carlsbad is going though an Oil Boom and there are a couple of hotels are priced even higher then we are.

Thanks for staying with us.

We stayed two nights in Carlsbad while on a tour of west Texas and the caverns. I used my Marriott reward points to book the room so cannot comment on the value. They gave us a room right in front of the elevator however it was a mini-suite (with a living room area) facing the back of the hotel, so it was very quiet.

Room was very clean, hotel looked great in general. The breakfast is great! Wide choice including brand sandwiches. Careful however, they closed breakfast before the time indicated in the hotel directory in the room.

Stay away from the IHOP right next door, they are overwhelmed and it appears very badly managed. The Chili's a couple blocks north wasn't great either unless you like the oil rig galley atmosphere.

The hotel is modern, clean and well located in Carlsbad. We are Marriott Platinum Elite guests and expected an upgraded room...we didn't get it and in fact were put in a room facing the noisy street and right next to the noisy elevator. Tacky treatment .

I would like to start off by saying I'm sorry we couldn't upgrade you to a suite. Our property stays full many nights and extra busy during Spring Break. When ever possible we do upgrade our Marriott Rewards members but we can only do that if we have empty suites to put you in.

Thank You for staying with us and hope to see you again..

There is nothing the matter with this hotel, except for the price. Long time travelers to southern New Mexico are used to nice accommodations at very reasonable prices. As long as the 'mini oil boom' continues in this area (and good for Carlsbad, in general), hoteliers will continue the gouge. Harsh words but true. Venture further north where ther are no oil rigs on the horizon and you'll pay about 60-70% the asking price of this relatively new and nice Mariott fixture. Don't let this diminish a fun trip to the caverns and other great venues in this lesser known pocket of the southwest.

I'm glad you stayed with us but sorry the rates are what they are. Yes there is an oil boom going on here in Carlsbad and the rates are based on the business being done in the city.
The rates will be based on the time of the year.

Thanks again for staying with us.

Stayed at the Fairfield Inn 3/11 - 3/13/13. Hotel was very clean. Breakfast was good & the attendant was very pleasant. The entire staff was very friendly. I did have a problem with one of my reservations, but the frost desk attendant ( Jordan? ) was very helpful with resolving my billing/points issue. The pool/hot tub could have been bigger, but that was really a non-issue. Overall, a clean hotel with a nice staff and good location.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was fine and the room was very comfortable. Be aware that any room (apparently) on the front of the hotel is going to have road noise, and with the light outside, and trucks, you will not need an alarm clock for an early morning wake-up call. That is hardly the hotel's fault, but if you are sans earplugs OR just a light sleeper you may wish to try to get a rear facing room.
That being said, we found this hotel to be quite clean, the room was in pristine condition and the bed was quite comfortable and we slept well. 'Till six am or so! We were here several nights - here for the caverns - and would gladly stay here again. The current oil-boom issue does impact pricing (Marriott Points come in real handy here!) but that's the case for everything in Carlsbad.

Room Tip: Back side of the hotel, as mentioned.

We stayed three nights during a trip to Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains National Parks. I don't have anything negative to say about the hotel. It was clean and well appointed. We were given cookies and bottled water a check-in, which was a nice gesture. We did not enjoy the city of Carlsbad. It is in the midst of an oil/fracking boom, so be prepared to stay with lots of oilfield workers and pay a premium for your room. Generally, the oil workers are the most polite and respectable people in town. Just a caveat to potential Carlsbad travelers, most of the locals look like they just finished a stint in prison. I was traveling with my wife and daughter and rarely felt at ease when not in the hotel.
