We stayed at the Inn and enjoyed our stay, but were not knocked off our socks. We stayed at the Woodward House which is aging and the room was not all that clean and smelled moldy. We did enoy walking the area and the resturant was very good and the service attentive.

Just got back from a 5 day stay at our favorite stateside retreat. I still say it's just getting a little too crowded -- too many new "cottages". We always stay at one of the older cottages as they suit our tastes a little better. We walked the grounds and looked at the new cottages. They are cute and made to look somewhat rustic. They are next to the donkey/goat pasture which makes it nice I would guess for watching the animals. Cannot say enough about the front desk staff. They were so very helpful and kind to us. We never got any clean towels -- maybe they don't give out clean towels when you only stay 5 days. Don't know and didn't bother to call and find out. We were on VACATION! Had to request a pot for some pasta one night and it was delivered within 15 minutes. Pretty good, I'd say. Like I've said before, we love this place -- it's just gotten so darn expensive that we have had to cut down on our visits. AND, you'd think that HL would somewhat recognize people who have been coming to their retreat since 1994. Seems like they would have something on file and maybe offer an upgrade or coupon for $ off. I know I would. All in all, had a wonderful time and we will be back next summer.

We just returned from an anniversary extended weekend getaway at the Highland Lake Inn. It was wonderfully romantic & secluded but also appeared to be a fun family getaway with lots of activities available. It is only minutes away from Downtown Hendersonville & only about 30 minutes from Asheville. There are several different accomodation options from a single room to a family cottage. We elected to stay in a room at the Lodge. It had a cozy cabin feel & the view out over the property was georgous. The cleanliness of the room was outstanding. We walked to breakfast every morning at Seasons Restaurant which is located right beside the Lodge. Breakfast is served buffet style & was included with our room. It was ablsolutely delicious and never very crowded. Breakfast is served from 7:30 - 9:00. The restaurant looks out over wooded areas where they have bird feeders & birds galore also having breakfast! We took leisurely walks after breakfast around the grounds. They have donkeys which you can feed, cats, goats and 2 peacocks. There is a lake with paddleboats and canoes. And they have a swimming pool which appeared to be very popular with the families. We took in a theatre production at the Flat Rock Playhouse which is only 5 minutes from the resort. They offer theatre/dinner packages also at the resort. Overall, it was a beautiful resort with something for everyone. The staff was most friendly and very helpful. The food was outstanding at their on-site restaurant. We would definitely recommend this resort to our friends & family.

My husband and I got married at Highland Lake Inn in October 2003 and our families are still talking about what a wonderful time they had. I originally found them advertised on a wedding website and within 24 hours of sending in an availability request, I received a call from their Event Director. The other places I had sent in a request all responded quickly but with an email. The personal touch from HLI was really nice and that set the tone for every interaction we had with them from that point forward.

From the first time we met with Camie (Event Director) and Stacey (Hotel Manager), we knew it was a match made in heaven! They seemed to really care about us and our magical day and we put our trust in them. What a wonderful decision that was! They took care of everything and were very attentive to our vision. When their pastry chef was unable to do our cake due to maternity leave, Camie contacted one of the premier pastry chefs in our area and arranged for him to do our cake (at no additional charge).

We had family flying in from all over (California, Michigan, Nevada) so we set up a room block with Stacy and it was handled flawlessly. The rooms were awesome and one of the things we liked the best was there are so many different types to choose from (there truly was something available for everyone’s budget). The cabins were so cozy and rustic, the cottages were perfect for families who wanted to stay together and the rooms in the Inn (now known as the Woodward House) were beautiful! The grounds were immaculate and everything went off without a hitch.

Camie and Stacey handled all the arrangements with such grace and ease that it took most of the stress off of me. Sure, I was stressed about certain things, but none of them pertained to our rehearsal dinner, wedding, reception or the rooms. The food was fabulous, so much so my husband and I spent our first wedding anniversary in their restaurant. It was a wonderful time to reflect on our perfect wedding and once again realize how lucky we were to find the Highland Lake Inn and Camie and Stacey.
