My family has been to the Highland Lake Inn seven years in a row and every year my kids have found new things to enjoy on the property - e.g., the goats, the swings, the pool, the lake, the boats, the fishing, the game-room, the hammocks, the open fields, the yoga classes etc. It's also a great place for a multigenerational vacation - parents and grandparents can find plenty to do on the property and in the surrounding area as well. When the weather is good, early morning yoga classes on the deck of the Grand Ole Hall have a stunning view of the lake - very beautiful and peaceful. The historic cottages, with full kitchens and laundry facilities, are very functional for extended family stays, but be prepared for their aged rusticity; the floors are tilted, the rooms rather dark, and the plumbing can be tricky. However, for our family, the beauty of the property, the expansiveness of the grounds, the wealth of amenities and the variety of dining, sight-seeing and shopping opportunities in the area far outweigh the somewhat dated lodgings.

Our family has enjoyed two visits to Highland Lake Inn and we will certainly be back. The property offers an array of activities in a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere close to many additional Smoky Mountain adventures. My husband says this is the only place he's seen me truly relax. A great property.

What a great place for a party - especially a wedding and reception!

Our daughter and son-in-law wanted an outside ceremony in the mountains. We looked at a number of venues in addition to Highland Lake Inn but were drawn back to this setting by all it offered and the beauty of the setting. The ceremony was held overlooking the lake (stunning location!) and the reception followed at the Grand Ole Hall(GOH).

Our initial impression of the GOH was "Oh no! What ARE we going to do with this 'barn' of a building?!" Well, we were pleasantly surprised with the results...thrilled actually! The addition of "floating" illuminated paper lanterns of different sizes and colors suspended at different heights from the rafters created an ethereal ambience especially after the light of day had faded. The HLI personnel - from management on down to staff - were most accommodating in helping us achieve the effect we were after. They even supplied creative ideas when we were "stuck" on one aspect or another. Oodles of flowers (what's a wedding without oodles of flowers?!) completed the effect.

The arrangement of the hall lent itself to a great flow for the evening: cocktails on the deck flowed to a buffet line to dining at one end of the hall and dancing at the other end... We were not even aware of the bustling activity of the HLI staff behind the scenes! We could not have been happier with the result!

Planning a wedding is a daunting indertaking at the very least - no matter the size. The HLI staff's accessibility, expertise, and "can do" attitude made our experience far easier than we ever imagined planning a wedding away from home could be.

Thank you! We are absolutely thrilled that the ease of planning and the experience overall was a great one.

We appreciate your feedback and comments about the GOH. That is exactly why we keep it as neutral as possible so that you can make it your "own" to accomplish what look or direction you would like to go in. We are happy that we accomplished our goal in assisting you in that process.

But, our ultimate goal is to make the memories that you take with you for a lifetime as perfect as they should be. We are always honored to be a part of that experience.

Thanks again for your feedback. We truly appreciate it and hope to see you back soon. Maybe for a little relaxation this time.

We did the Biltmore package. We had a plunger in our room for the toilet(which was needed) and little water pressure nor rails in bathroom. As soon as we stepped out of our room the common area was a sauna. If you like little kids, you would like the pool.
I rate this below Motel 6( which I would never try.) All of the comments I see are for groups, so maybe good for them.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

Thank you for choosing Highland Lake Inn for your recent stay. I apologize that you did not have a wonderful experience while with us. We did have an air conditioner unit that went out the day of your arrival. We had the part needed on emergency order and posted signs in the Woodward House so that our guests would know what was going on. It took two days to get the needed part and that was the extent of your stay. I would like to invite you to come back for a night on us and experience the true feeling of HLI. Concerning the issue that you experienced with your bathroom, I apologize for the problem that you made us aware of at check out. We would have immediately fixed the issue if you had let us know sooner. We value guest feedback as it allows us to focus on areas that may need our attention. I had our Property Management team take care of that issue as soon as we were notified and thank you for letting us know.
It is summer time and there are a lot of vacationing families here this time of year so we do have children in the pool but there is always plenty of room for all of our guests. We wish you the best and hope you have a wonderful summer.
Sincerely,
Kim Smith

As we do every year before dropping our kids off at camp, we recently spent the night in one of the cabins. It is a little rustic, but that is the way we like it. Breakfast is incredible. The location is also very convenient to several camps as well as downtown Hendersonville. The kids swam in the pool (it was a little cool for the adults) and then we walked to the lake to watch some people fishing.

We had a small (35 poeple) reunion of our college eating house (Like a fraternity, but coed) that included our classmates and their families. We used the Woodward House, which was just PERFECT for a group that size... very nice rooms, great gathering areas to eat, sit, talk, reminisce, and private enough that you could play music from back in the day without disturbing anyone.

We took advantage of their group dining options and it was GREAT! The food was wonderful and the service excellent. We also enjoyed a bonfire by the lake, and used their Kudzu Cottage for our meeting facility.

The Event staff helped us plan and execute our reunion, and were incredibly helpful and flexible in accomdating our needs. They were absolutely top-notch.

In short, every experience we had with Hilghland Lakes in terms of their facility, their food, and their service was nothing short of excellent. Our fellow classmates would probably throw us out of our association if we considered going elsewhere for our next reunion.
