“Season's lunch”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

I enjoyed a delicious lunch on 1-5-13. I had a waldorf chicken salad sandwich, sweet tea, and creme brulee. The service was great. LOVED it all.

How nice that you enjoyed all aspects of our Sunday Brunch! We have many fans of the frittata, which changes every week with the whim of our Chef and features seasonal vegetables. So many choices on our Sunday Brunch Buffet make it a treat that can be enjoyed week after week; and we have many folks who do just that! We will look forward to seeing you again soon!

“Quaint causally elegant gem in a serene location.”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

The breakfast offering at Season's is so sumptuous... something for everyone... fruit, cereals, juices, yogurt, eggs/omelettes, waffles, french toast, bacon sausage, toast, biscuits (& sausage gravy). Breakfast is complimentary with most of the accommodation selections. It is quite reasonably priced (about $10) for anyone choosing to eat there even if not included in a room rate package. The breakfast is well worth having either way.
We also had dinner at Season's on Thanksgiving Day... reservations for 4:45PM, party of four. We were actually seated nearer to 5:30PM. Overall the variety of items offered at the different serving stations was excellent... many were gourmet dishes. HOWEVER, I feel that the restaurant overbooked for the capacity and turnover rate of the Thanksgiving Day crowd which led to several shortcomings... starting with the 45 minute wait for a table.
Other shortcomings (of varying degrees of importance): there was cranberry sauce available but required asking the waitress for it (not on the buffet), the dark meat turkey was smoked and served chilled (not hot, not roasted), some dishes were more popular than others resulting in the lesser-demanded dishes becoming "cool/warm served" (for some of the diners) before the trays would be refilled with hot food, and the desserts were self-serve & looked "picked over & messy" because of the sheer volume of children and adults serving themselves.
If I were to suggest improvements, I'd say that there was a NEED for more servers attending the serving stations so smaller amounts of HOT food could be offered ALL THE TIME & any "spills" from careless self-serving could have been quickly cleared from the serving area. The desserts should have been cut & plated as individual servings (instead of cut whole pies being mauled by the crowd) --or-- there should have been a server there to give each guest the dessert item(s) desired in the size desired. There is nothing MORE of a TURN OFF than a slice cheesecake or pie mangled by a guest who ONLY WANTS A TASTE!
I have had better HOLIDAY DINING experiences (& presentation) at resort restaurants that had "attended serving stations" for all of the selections being offered, not just the meat carving stations. OVERALL, however, our party enjoyed the meal and the fellowship that we had sharing the meal in a very casually elegant restaurant! Compared to Abingdon or Summerville, the Thanksgiving Day meal was a little pricey.

The staff here at Season's at Highland Lake Inn is always working to ensure nothing less than a wonderful experience for each and every guest, every time. We are delighted that you were so pleased with our breakfast offerings. It is one of the things that keep people coming back vacation after vacation...looking forward to what you so graciously referred to as a "sumptuous" breakfast! We were sorry that you were somewhat disappointed in our Thanksgiving buffet and have passed on your feedback to our Chef's. Each year, we strive to make sure that everyone who joins us on such a time-honored holiday enjoys themselves to the fullest. We sincerely hope that you will join us again, whether it is for a holiday buffet or an ala carte intimate dinner and let us try to "wow" you in every way!

“One of the best meals I've ever had!”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

Where to begin? The picturesque watermill/falls at entrance to Highland Lake Inn & Seasons Restaurant was so beautiful and inviting. A winding, ivy-covered forest drive to Seasons Restaurant revealed a crystal blue lake-perfect photo opportunities!
The restaurant was a delightful surprise-so full of ambience & comfortable, not stuffy, elegance. Service was impeccable. But I've saved the best for last. My entree, Butternut Squash Tortelloni,
was one of the best meals I have ever eaten! Perfection!!! My husband's chicken pot pie was creamy deliciousness. We look forward to returning again & again!

It sounded as though you enjoyed the Highland Lake Inn experience from start to finish! And nothing makes us happier! Our grounds are a big part of the destination allure to many people and to have a dining experience that completes their day without having to leave the property is also very appealing. We are so pleased that your experience has prompted you to be already thinking of a return visit!
