The farmhouse was kept just as when he wrote. The window where he typed opened to an inspiring view of the landscape.

Beautiful grounds for walking. Took a tour of the house and it was very interesting to see where they lived. Love the goats and could have stayed much longer. The fee is for the tour, not to enter the grounds and is optional. Nice gift shop, too.

It's a long walk but a lovely one to the house from parking lot. Assistance is available via telephone from lot. I don't have a lot of patience with docent approach vs plain old tour guides or a self guided tour , but I understand the need to protect artifacts and the tour leader was enthusiastic.
Amazing amount of authentic , nostalgic Sandburg family artifacts. Definitely worth a visit. Kids would enjoy grounds and goats but likely would be bored by house tour.

Friends and I visited the Carl Sandburg Home and really enjoyed it. The house was left exactly as it looked inside when Mrs. Sandburg left the estate. They still raise goats and you can pet them and take great pictures of them up-close. Lovely history lesson about a two time Pulitzer Prize winner.
