While vacationing in Utah, we decided to spend a night at Austin's so we could see Capitol Reef, before driving on to Moab. The grounds of the hotel are very clean, the only exception was the pool which had an excess of dead leaves and other debris floating around in it. The lodge is conveniently attached to a general store and a deli, where you can buy breakfast and pick any odds and ends you may need for your travels. Also, just a short walk from the lodge is a delicious burger joint called Slackers, where you can get lunch or dinner. Although they were on the smaller side, the rooms were nice, but they were definitely no frills. Aside from two framed pictures and an out of place wall decoration (it looked like a decorative brass plate) the room walls were bare. The beds were very comfortable though, and the sheets were clean and soft. If you're looking for a nice little place to spend a night or two while travelling through Utah, Austin's is the lodge for you.

All the hotels near the national parks are expensive.
Austin's is reasonable when considering the alternitives. The room was fairly modern and in good condition. I think it had recently been refurbished.
Its got a good personality even if its your typical American motel - its dressed to look the part.
Food in the Cafe was reasonable, but there isnt much going on in the town.
Good location if visiting Capitol Reef.

We spent two nights in one of their 2-bedroom cabins. First of all, Torrey is booming but still isn't much. Several motel chains have come in and erected their boxes on the east edge of town and even further out. A couple of these places have restaurants associated with them. The Chuckwagon is an older motel right in the heart of the village with big shade trees all around and easy walking to the two local restaurants. There is a building with motel units which look pretty typical and then these nice cabins. Our cabin had the two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, full bath, small living room with satellite TV, free Wifi, and a kitchen area with frig, coffee maker and microwave - no stove. It is equipped with plates, glasses, silverware, etc. Also, there is a front porch for sitting out and having a cocktail - in our case it was beer with chips and salsa. The cabin was well kept and clean.
On the grounds, out on the highway is the small convenience store/deli. We were never there to eat in the deli but bought a few things for breakfast in the store.

While driving from Bryce to Moab, we stopped at their deli. Sandwiches were good. Grilled cheese too. They have a few tables if you want to eat there.

Did not sleep at their motel but from the outside it seemed clean and welcoming.

Reviewed the TA comments and chose Austin's for it's price and location to Capital Reef. No complaints about the room or general grounds. It was fine and served us well for a comfortable room and place to sleep after hiking. Torrey is small and Austin's has the market on grocery shopping as it IS the only place in town! We stayed in a second floor room which offered plenty of space to spread out and was quiet (except for the motorcycles taking off in the early morning). There are other options for accommodations in the Torrey area, but this seemed to be one of the best for being in town.

There are a limited number of places to stay when one is traveling southeast Utah. We were visiting National and State Parks and searched for a place near Capital Reef. There were so many good reviews of the Chuckwagon that we decided to check in. We were not disappointed and you won't be either. Clean rooms, clean pool, great little hot tub and store. It is the perfect spot to hole up before hiking the park. We stayed in room 16 - bottom floor near the pool. The cost was 80 plus tax with my AAA card. It would be difficult to beat the price of the room or the accommodations.
