“No Elevator??”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

It's a very nice modern place. The staff was polite and efficient, and the room was clean and modern. They responded quickly to a problem with the TV remote not working.
The free breakfast was nice, some hot items.

The only problem is the lack of an elevator, which seems very odd for a new building.
You have to carry your luggage up a long flight of stairs to the 2nd floor, were most of the rooms are. (No bell hops)

But compared to other motels in rural Utah, this looks like one of the best.

Room Tip: Get a ADA room, unless you need exercise climbing stairs.

Thank you for staying at the Red Sands Hotel during your trip. Along with all the other hotels in the area, we do not have elevators. We are so sorry for the hassle. We appreciate the great review and hope you will visit our property again.

Unfortunately we had reservations for only one night. I'm sure we could have stayed longer since the national parks were shut down but we had reservations someplace else the next night. Loved this place & the town of Torrey with it's population of 182. The front of the hotel had cows & the back horses. We used the pool & the hot tub, the only time we could on our trip as they were inside & we enjoyed both. They served wine & cheese at 4 pm. There was a bus load of people who were all chatting to one another so we sat out in the lobby & talked to Joe who worked at the hotel. Very nice man & gave us some good tips. Breakfast was really nice, lots of hot food. The only down side is there are lots of stairs & if you are carrying luggage this could be an issue.

Not that Red Sands needs much more to sell itself as a fine lodging place in the Capitol Reef area but the road leading into it was the best ever! From the highway, you drive quite a few miles through Capitol Reef's beautiful landscape to get to Torrey and Red Sands.I found the staff very helpful about the park and local eateries. My room was neat, clean, and comfortable. The morning complimentary breakfast was well laid out with many choices. I would have no problem recommending Red Sands to anyone needing a place to stay in the Torrey area.

As far as its location to Capitol Reef, you could walk to it!

One night in this hotel after our visit to Capitol Reef NP. Warm welcome at reception and upon enquiring if there was a microwave in our room, one was placed in the room within minutes. Super service.

A large, clean room, looking out back with great views. No outside pool unfortunately, and nowhere to sit outside to take the view, but no matter, we tried the indoor pool. It was okay, but a little cloudy.

Breakfast (in the price) the following morning was nothing special but absolutely fine to get us on our way.

This is a pretty decent motel in a small village and handy for Capitol reef, which we would happily return to. As for eating, we can highly recommend Cafe Diablo, a mile or so down the road. What a magnificent restaurant, with an innovative menu, and the best we found on our whole Grand Circle road trip.

We visited the Red Sands Hotel near the entrance of Capital Reef National Park in Southern Utah. Since the government shutdown, the state of Utah was able to open the National Parks in their state. Luckily several tour buses had canceled and we found a pet-friendly room at the Red Sands Hotel.
When I first entered to register, a small bell waiting for me to call someone to assist me. After several rings, one of the room cleaning staff noticed, went to the backroom calling out "you have a guest." The person who came out, a young lady with a wrist brace on both arms, greeted me and took the necessary information. She was polite but not as enthusiastic as I would have expected with the park reopening and therefore, tourists returning to the area. Regardless, registration was painless and swift.
Our room was immaculate and had a nice view of the pastures and Boulder Mountain Range. The bathroom was without a window and could have been without a light for all said purposes. The lightbulb and light cover were so dingy it seemed you were in a sealed box. We never fully closed the bathroom door to allow enough light while showering and taking care of other matters.
We reviewed the information in the room about restaurants, decided on one and called the Front Desk asking for directions. We were told it was about "2 blocks" down the road. Actually closer to 1/2 mile and when we arrived the restaurant was closed up tight. I think the Front Desk person should have known this and mentioned that when asked about the restaurant's location. Fortunately another open restaurant was right across the street.
The next morning's breakfast was self-serve and offered several good selections. The person tending the breakfast area was cheerful and very helpful. This was a Sunday morning and it was good to hear several languages while eating. I recognized French and German; a third European language I did not recognize.
All in all, a good place to stay. We would/will return.

Room Tip: I recommend asking for a room near the west (I believe) entrance, opposite from the pool and hot tub...

Very nice and helpful people. Had lots of advice on what to see in the area. The rooms are nice and clean. The downstairs rooms seem to be larger. There is no elevator for this 2 story motel so be aware of that. Breakfast was standard motel breakfast and very good. We were pleased.

My husband and I were traveling through southern Utah exploring the many beautiful National Parks and charming little towns and we came to Torrey, Utah and found Red Sands Hotel. The lady at the front desk went above and beyond in helping us plan new hiking and sight seeing itineraries and we are very thankful for the recommendation to explore Goblin Valley State Park..It was awesome!! The beds here were fabulous and the rooms were very clean. We made great use of the heated pool and hot tub. We thought the free breakfast in the morning was more than adequate, there was a choice of scrambled eggs and hot waffles and the coffee was actually pretty good too. We would definitely recommend Red Sands Hotel to anyone looking to stay in Torrey or around Capitol Reef.
