Owner description: The museum houses the region’s largest collection of decoys (old and new) along with changing exhibitions of workboats, community history, commercial fishing, and wildlife photography. It also offers a stunning view of Cape Lookout Lighthouse from the third-story tower. Willow Pond includes an interpretive hiking trail through maritime forest that leads to the Cape Lookout National Seashore Visitors Center next door.

Nestled back from the road, this extraordinary museum is a great visit. This was our second visit, and with the changing exhibits and informative continuous run videos, there was more to learn about the area. Their new addition offers more space which I'm sure they will put to good use.

If you are near Emerald Isle, Beaufort, Morehead City make the drive to Harker's Island to visit this museum. While it isn't a large museum it is full of interesting exhibits which tell the rich history of the area. The staff is friendly and informative. While there is no entrance fee a donation is appreciated.
The island is beautiful with a view of Cape Lookout lighthouse.

We have been here before but enjoyed it again. The amazing decoy art is displayed throughout the museum. Many hours have been spent by many people from various local towns and counties arranging displays representing their history. The history of Harkers Island fishing is also documented with many model crafts on display. Photographs add a personal touch. The view from the highest tower location is beautiful and, on a clear day, you can see Lookout Lighthouse. We took the short but informative trail through the maritime forest and salt marshes down to Core Sound. The boys loved the walk and climbing along the driftwood and dead tress on the Sound.

My family and I were vacationing in Emerald Isle NC and decided to take a day trip to Harker's island to visit the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum. I wasn't sure that I would enjoy visiting, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is worth a trip to learn about the waterfowl and view all the decoys. There are also many displays of the different downeast communities that were very interesting. Very nice trip. No entrance fee, but donations are recommended.
