The decor is local history, the atmosphere is defiantly casual, and the food is great. If you're in downtown Manteo and looking for a quick bite I highly recommend Poor Richard's. The nightlife can be fun too with a late night menu, trivia night, and karaoke.

Love the nighttime music with the locals and good beer on tap. The tuna on rye is to die for. The service is pretty slow so be prepared for that. Lastly, Billy Raney is a local and does a few shows a week. He is worth a listen with a great soulful voice.

Stopped here for breakfast and had omelets and hashbrowns. The food was very good and the staff was fast and friendly. The place was clean with a good view also.

The rueben sandwich is the best in the OBX. I love sitting outside watching the marina activity in the summer.

Ate at Poor Richards when in Manteo recently. Luckily we seemed to have arrived in a "lull" so were able to sit on the deck on a beautiful early November day. So as not to "lose the spot." I sat at the table while Hubby went to order. This is a strictly order at the counter type of place. The food was pretty much what you expect from a sandwich shop; all the usual suspects served on white, wheat or ryte (wraps 50 cents extra) Of course, being in the south there is also NC PulledPork, and Philly cheese steak. Soup du Jour, burgers, hot dogs and chili round out the menu. Nothing spectacular, but nothing awful.

As I am not a big eater, we decided to share a crab cake sandwich. Nothing memorable but certainly passable. The price reflects where you are (which only really matters if you are lucky enough to snag one of the six tables on the deck, or one of the two picnic tables on the walkway; inside is, well, inside a sandwich shop). We enjoyed the view, and the sandwich.

So take it for what it is: a simple sandwich shop in a great location. Dpn't expect gourmet and you will not be disappointed.
