The great thing about the Tranquil Inn is that it is right in town so you can walk to everything, even the Festival Park across the creek. We stayed in a second floor king room and it was spacious and clean. There is a wonderful porch on the second floor facing the water and marina where you can sit and relax or, weather permitting, enjoy your breakfast or the wine and cheese reception in the afternoon. They call the breakfast "continental" but there were hot sausage biscuits, fresh bagels and pastries, and freshly cut fruit in addition to the typical continental fare. And the 1587 Restaurant on the first floor is truly a top-notch place to enjoy a meal. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is that when we checked in they did not have any information to give us as to when/where breakfast was or even that there was free Wi-Fi or a wine reception. The young lady that checked us in seemed a bit put out that we were there and I had to keep asking questions until I think I got all the information. Otherwise our stay there was very nice and the other two people we encountered at the front desk, along with the very nice woman who took care of the excellent breakfast, were all very helpful.

This is a lovely inn, right on the water and sporting a great deck area that overlooks it. Breakfast and evening wine and cheese are served just inside, and you can take them out onto the deck, which overlooks a marina. Our room (the largest king they had) was very nice and reasonably priced. When we checked out, I was on my own with a lot of bags, and the young lady at the front desk came up (3d floor- no elevator) and helped me with my bags, which was very much appreciated.

The Inn is smack dab in town, so you can walk anywhere. All in all, very charming.

Room Tip: There are no elevators, so choose accordingly. There are rooms right off the deck (second level).

This is our second time staying here. All the staff are great! The Inn backs on the water with docks and a entertaining mixture of boats. The sun rises over the marina area in the morning and the second floor outside deck is where you can sit and enjoy the continental breakfast in the am...amazing way to wake up in the morning. There is a very long boardwalk thru the local park and all around the waterfront area that is very safe and secure with many walkers/runners early in the morning right outside the Inn. I have stayed on the second floor both visits in the side rooms without the waterview and prefer them due to the privacy and quiet location. I sit on the deck and have the water view..and I do not stay in my room except to sleep. The rooms are clean, beds very comfortable, and bathrooms spotless. The lady that prepared the breakfast foods made sure the coffee was available as soon as you were up and out on the deck....very thoughtful treat!! The area is surrounded by little shops and ice cream stores and arts and just fun little areas to explore. This Inn is not on the Atlantic but just drive over the bridge and you are there. Manteo is very well maintained, exceptionally pretty and there is alot to see and do. I could easily stay here for several weeks and enjoy the area and will always go back to the Tranquil House Inn...the name says it all. Ample free parking on site with handicap parking near the wooden ramp to the first floor. The hotel is elevated for potential flooding but one in our party used assitance devices for ambulation and found the ramp and rooms easy to navigate on the first floor.

The location is absolutely great. We love the Nags Head area but prefer the more quiet setting of Manteo which is just down the road. Manteo is a charming town and Tranquil House is perfectly located. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful and the attached restaurant was fantastic with great service. The room was spacious and we enjoyed the views. My only issue was the maintenance of the room. The sheets didn't quite fit the bed and I find it so annoying to have sheets come off at the corners when you are sleeping. I think someone needs to go in to the rooms with a very critical eye and make some repairs and updates. Overall the room had a sense of shabbiness that wasn't chic. I could make a list but will just give one perfect example: the rod in the closet had obviously been painted at some point and when you moved the hangers along the rod the paint scraped off and ended up all over my clothing. Not good.

My wife and I stayed at this Inn for two nights last week as part of our trip to the OBX.
The location is excellent, right on the Manteo harbor with the boats just yards away!
The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was very spacious and clean.
The continental breakfast was good and included hot sausage biscuits.
The "bad" part of the experience was the lay out of the Inn. The second floor has a large open air deck facing the harbor and marina. If your room entrance is right off this deck, as ours was, you are subjected to all the daytime and late night partying and foot traffic on this deck that goes on very late into the night including unsupervised children running about. (Guests staying in these rooms pay more because of the deck access and views) The Inn also has stair wells on each end that are subject to loud foot traffic going up and down to the third floor from the first.
All in all not a great experience for us considering the expensive room rate for the season.

The Tranquil House Inn is in a great location in Manteo. We visited during First Friday and Virginia Dare Day which was a street party with crafts, food and bands. We enjoyed it very much. The Tranquil House, with some effort, could be a great hotel. Our room faced the water wth a large deck on which to relax. The rooms are very clean and neat but desparately in need of upgrading. The mattress on our bed was so soft we woke each morning with a back ache. The restaurant is terrific. The morning continental breakfast is very good. The wines served from 5pm to 6pm are not very good (headache quality). The staff is very friendly and helpful but a little unprofessional in dress and demeanor - probably not uncommon for a tourist hotel. If you can forgive the shortfalls the Tranquil House is a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the water.

We booked for one night but changed our plans and stayed for two. Excellent location, rooms were large and clean, staff friendly and eager to assist with anything even getting hot tea for two weary travelers who arrived at 11 pm instead of 4 pm because they were stuck on the ferry from Ocracoke!!! Great outdoor deck that was peaceful to have breakfast on. The breakfast was good as were the afternoon cookies. Right on the boardwalk so easy access to shops and Festival Park. Would have spent the rest of our vacation there if it had been up to me!

Room Tip: Ask for harbor side.
