We just returned from out trip to Manteo, N.C., and we stayed at Roanoke Inn for 2 nights. There were some positives about the Inn: quiet; somewhat secluded; by the water; the open snack area for guests and common reading area were nice. The negatives outweighed the postivies for me, such as: bugs in the bathroom; musty smell (all of my clean clothes have to be washed due to the smell); furniture was antique but the bed and other stands were broken in our room (not "nice" antiques, just old); dark and gloomy room (not enough lamps and some were broken); the innkeeper never smiled and was rarely around; the air conditioner will not turn to low, so the room gets too cold; too expensive for the condition and overall atmosphere of the room. I relied on the raving reviews (?) beforehand and ended up spending too much money that could have been spent on a more updated and hospitable place. Our experiences before these 2 days had been wonderful at other B&B's on the Outer Banks and this was a disappointing end to our vacation. My advice: Pictures online don't always give you an honest interpretation of the room, so compare other Inns and prices, and remember to read ALL reviews before you make a decision!
