A perfect home base from which to explore the Manteo shops and waterfront. Tranquil garden and elegant lobby for relaxation and conversation. The innkeeper's pantry is a nice touch, but the continental breakfast is not robust.

A last-minute trip and the need for a dog-friendly hotel could not have produced a more perfect find. The bungalow was perfect for our needs. The location was great, and we could walk to most everywhere we wanted to go. The amenities and open pantry were wonderful. The staff was friendly and most helpful. This is definitely a spot to return!

We enjoyed the privacy of the rooms and the rocking chair balcony. The location is perfect as it is within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. The rooms are not luxurious, but adequate for such an old inn. For $188 a night, however, we expected a little more selection at breakfast, such as fresh fruit and yogurt, perhaps. Muffins and pastries are not a welcome sight for people watching their diets, and this is the only offering other than dry cereal. Our only other complaint is with the bedding. Our sheets were obviously queen-size used on a king bed. The top sheet was turned sideways to try and make it fit, but it still did not fit at all. Very frustrating. I felt it was too late to call and request new ones, so we made do with what we had. One housekeeping suggestion: the decorations on the walls outside the rooms are filthy with dirt and cobwebs. Maybe those could be cleaned. Also, a dirty clothes bag in the closet would be nice.

I love to travel and much prefer B&B's to other accommodations. The Roanoke resides on the top of my favorites list. I stayed in the Bungalow and in the Inn this trip, and found both to be quite comfortable, clean, attractive, and very restful. I'm picky about pillows and linens... and the Roanoke's were great!

It's difficult to single out any one element that made my stay special.... the quirky charm of the Bungalow, the breezeway and its wonderous view, the fabulous garden which offered a lovely surprize at every turn. Cheryl made me feel quite welcome and at home and provided a recommendation for dinner that was the most memorable of the entire trip. Her friendliness, enthusiasm, energy, good humor and helpfulness were much appreciated!

My only suggestion would be to turn on the AC well before guests (especially menopausal ladies) arrive.

Small (8 rooms plus a bungalow) inn on the waterfront in historic downtown Manteo, NC. Really a 100+ year old private home, with an addition, closely resembling a B&B. No frills, no services to even incur any incidentals. But easy walking access to everything in downtown Manteo, bicycles provided, access to unlimited, complementary drinks, coffee, snacks, and included daily continental breakfast. Nice and relaxing home and grounds with laid back and very helpful innkeeper(s). If you are looking for anything close to full service, this is not the place. But for a great, small, private inn, we were extremely pleased and definitely will be staying again and again for any future trips to Manteo and Roanoke Island.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn for our first trip to the Outer Banks, and overall had a great time. Two things we would change would be the breakfast and the bed. The snacks available 24-7 are great, but we expected a warm breakfast, not just danishes and muffins. We also both woke up with stiff backs because the mattress was so hard. The pillows were nice and fluffy though. Overall the rooms could use a little upgrade but they were just fine if you go in expecting something simple. Its a very nice, pretty walk to dinner and attractions. We highly recommend driving down south on Nags Head over the bridge to Pea Island. It is more of the secluded outer banks experience we had in mind- the beaches on Nags Head near the main towns are nothing special at all.

We stayed at the Bungalow at the Roanoke Inn for a short 3 day holiday. It was well positioned to give is quick access to Manteo, the Aquarium, Elizabethan Gardens, Jockey's Ridge, Duck, and Corolla.

The accommodations were well suited to our tastes - very clean, nice staff, comfortable furniture. The bungalow had two bedrooms, a full bath, and a small kitchenette (sink and minifridge) that served as a great base-camp for our adventures.

We got all of the charm and hospitality of a well-appointed bed and breakfast, but all of the privacy of a stand-alone rental.

I look forward to return trips to the Inn, and the Roanoke area!
