Small (8 rooms plus a bungalow) inn on the waterfront in historic downtown Manteo, NC. Really a 100+ year old private home, with an addition, closely resembling a B&B. No frills, no services to even incur any incidentals. But easy walking access to everything in downtown Manteo, bicycles provided, access to unlimited, complementary drinks, coffee, snacks, and included daily continental breakfast. Nice and relaxing home and grounds with laid back and very helpful innkeeper(s). If you are looking for anything close to full service, this is not the place. But for a great, small, private inn, we were extremely pleased and definitely will be staying again and again for any future trips to Manteo and Roanoke Island.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn for our first trip to the Outer Banks, and overall had a great time. Two things we would change would be the breakfast and the bed. The snacks available 24-7 are great, but we expected a warm breakfast, not just danishes and muffins. We also both woke up with stiff backs because the mattress was so hard. The pillows were nice and fluffy though. Overall the rooms could use a little upgrade but they were just fine if you go in expecting something simple. Its a very nice, pretty walk to dinner and attractions. We highly recommend driving down south on Nags Head over the bridge to Pea Island. It is more of the secluded outer banks experience we had in mind- the beaches on Nags Head near the main towns are nothing special at all.

We stayed at the Bungalow at the Roanoke Inn for a short 3 day holiday. It was well positioned to give is quick access to Manteo, the Aquarium, Elizabethan Gardens, Jockey's Ridge, Duck, and Corolla.

The accommodations were well suited to our tastes - very clean, nice staff, comfortable furniture. The bungalow had two bedrooms, a full bath, and a small kitchenette (sink and minifridge) that served as a great base-camp for our adventures.

We got all of the charm and hospitality of a well-appointed bed and breakfast, but all of the privacy of a stand-alone rental.

I look forward to return trips to the Inn, and the Roanoke area!

Cheryl was great as the innkeeper, very personalble and very friendly. We stayed in room #3 and the room was great. After a "hot" wedding on the beach at Nags Head, we came back to the Roanoke and parked in our own spot, then walked two blocks to Budleigh Street where the reception was. We stayed there most of the evening and while all the other guests were having to be shuttle-bus"ed back to the hotel at the beach, we had a leisurely moon-lit walk back home to our special room. Breakfast was great in the morning, made ourselves at home and enjoyed talking to Cheryl. Great stay!

The Roanoke Island Inn is the perfect location in Manteo - peaceful, waterfront view, quick walk to shops/restaurants/marina/tourist attractions. We stayed in the garden cottage with two bedrooms and it was very cozy and comfortable. Breakfast was a simple cold selection in the butler's pantry. Snacks and drinks were always available. It was the perfect weekend!

The Inn offered everything a person wants when escaping to a small town on the beach. The rooms were pleasant, the snack pantry was a treat, and the Inn Keeper was knowledgeable and fantastic. The Inn offered some great bikes free of charge for a wonderful ride around town. I felt like a kid again. The beach was only a 5 minute drive across the bridge and all of the main street restaurants and shops are literally right around the corner. I walked to each one. It was an amazing time that I won't forget and will go back again.

The inn and grounds are just wonderful - so picturesque! My daughter and I enjoyed our stay in family suite 7 - it was very comfortable and opened directly onto the upstairs, breezeway porch. complete with rockers - a perfect place to enjoy the fabulous waterfront views. We loved being able to walk down the street for shopping and delicious meals - so nice to just leave the car parked. We both like plants and found delight in the beautiful grounds - so nice that the azaleas were blooming. The 24 hour pantry was convenient, especially since there was no mini-fridge in our rooms. The continental breakfast was nice, but would have been better if a bowl of fresh fruit had been available. We absolutely loved the inn and enjoyed our stay immensely!!! Cheryl Screen, our innkeeper, was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely come back again!
