My boyfriend, sister, and I stayed at the Croatan Cottage July 15-18, 2012, and we had a wonderful time. This cottage is a recent addition to the owners of the Roanoke Island Inn--also a very nice place to stay, but if you are looking for a home all to yourselves, I highly recommend the Croatan Cottage. This is a Sears and Roebuck craftman-style home with beautiful period furnishings and woodwork. The cottage is larger inside than you would think from looking at the outside. Downstairs, it has a small living room with a television and to the left of that room is a game/reading room with a decent-sized table. It has a separate dining room and full kitchen, equipped with pots/pans, dishes, utensils, dish soap, paper towels, etc. A nice surprise is they have a large Keurig coffee maker, supplied with various coffees and a basket of individually-packaged goodies for your enjoyment. Downstairs there is a full bathroom with shower and a twin bedroom. Upstairs there are two king bedrooms, each with their own full baths (with showers) and a nice office. All bedrooms have a good-size television--even larger than the one in the living room. They also have Wi-Fi! All the comforts of home!

Outside in the back, there is a nice deck with a table, unbrella, and chairs. It was too warm when we visited to enjoy that area, but we loved the large front porch with rocking chairs and a swing. We sat out there every morning and had our coffee and said hello to anyone passing by bike or foot. Across the street, down a couple of houses is an old farmhouse that, shortly before his passing, was purchased by Andy Griffith and his wife. Next door to that house, and directly across from the Croatan Cottage is a home with four parrots, that are kept on the front porch. We were entertained daily by those birds. We couldn't believe it when one of the birds started whistling the Andy Griffith theme song. This definitely was a highlight of our stay there. They didn't annoy us at all. It seemed the parrots were mostly active in the morning and in the evening for just a little while.

All linens, tp, etc. are included in the cottage--so no need to bring bedding, towels, etc.

My wifa and I stayed at this Inn last week on our visit to the OBX.
You cannot beat the location to Manteo and the beautiful boardwalk over to the harbor.
The rooms are clean and nicely decorated The common room is very nice with beautiful frescos on the ceilings and lots of books and items of interest for the local area.
The continental breakfast is very nice with lots of fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, pastries etc. A refrigerator is available for guest use.
The best part of The Roanoke Island Inn is Dee, the resident manager. She was a real delight and insured that every guest was satisfied. She had lots of suggestions on where to go and what to see in the local area.
We would stay here again with no hesitation. In fact, we wanted to stay longer but a wedding party had the whole Inn booked.

I stayed at the Roanoke Island Inn with my family and really enjoyed our stay. The inn is clean, comfortable and has a great view of the small Manteo harbor. Good dining and shops are less than a 10 min. walk. The inn also offers free bicycles if you want to explore the island a bit further. Highly recommend this inn.

The wife myself along with our 2 children,Had a great stay. Ms.Dee was wonderful she jumped through hoops too see that we had rooms on really short notice, So we got to enjoy 2 rooms during our visit. Both were great as for some of the older post "pre-Irene" we had none of the issue mentioned. This will be my new spot while in Mantoe. And the one thing i was really looking for was peace&quiet and they delivered in spades!

My wife and I stayed in Room 4 in late May 2012 for our honeymoon. When we arrived, Dee gave us a warm welcome and made several fabulous restaurant recommendations. The room was very well appointed; simple and tasteful. Our side window overlooked the Manteo lighthouse and Shallowbag Bay. The Inn's location is a 3 minute walk from downtown Manteo and a 10 minute drive to the Outer Banks beaches. We really appreciated being able to stroll around town and get away from the more commercial Outer Banks at night. And I highly recommend eating your breakfast on the second floor breezeway overlooking Shallowbag Bay.
