Owner description: History comes alive with a replica of Elizabeth II's era and costumed-sixteenth-century characters.

Took 4 children, ages 9, 8, 6 and 2. All but the 2 year old were enthralled by everything. The museum had clothing from the past to try on, the movie, though long, kept their interest. The working English village included a stockade, a foot powered lathe and a blacksmith. The staff was mainly college kids and they were very friendly and knowledgeable.

My family and I enjoyed about 1.5 hours at the historic site and ship. We enjoyed our time there. It was very hot, but still glad we visited.

You and your whole family will enjoy spending a few hours visiting Festival park on Roanoke Island. Take yourself back in time as you board the Elizabeth ll, visit a colony settlement and watch a blacksmith forge a nail. There are lots of other things to see such as a reconstructed Native American Indian village and dugout canoe. Plan to spend several hours with actor interpreters as they do their best to convince you that you are in living in the sixteenth century. There are many hands on and interactive activities for the kids. The museum is being renovated but should be open this fall.

Had a good time and the kids loved it. I would suggest the onsite educational film first, a little long but it gives you an idea of what you are seeing there.

The Festival Park is a nice diversion for the family and couples. The staff is friendly and the exhibits tell the story of early colonization extremely well, both for the settlers and the indians. The crew aboard the ship told some wonderful stories. It is real hands on for the little ones.
