Description: Order at the window. Send the kids to scout a table on the sand. This is the place for a plate of fried clams with a slow summer sunset on the side. Steamers with broth and drawn butter, a lobster roll, a fried fish sandwich, onion rings--they're Cape Cod classics for a reason. There may be nothing better. But here's satisfaction for those who might crave something else: grilled tuna with summer vegetables and ponzu, a scallop burrito, fish tacos, Caribbean fish stew. And ice cream, of course: sundaes and frappes, soft-serve and scooped - served every night until 10pm. Our honest-to-goodness clam shack. Right on Wellfleet harbor, next to our original fish market.

“Seaside Picnic Table Seating w/White Table Cloth Prices!”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

If you like sitting outside at a picnic table next to the ocean, you will LOVE the ambiance. It doesn't get much better than this! And the clam chowder is REAL clam chowder with a fresh clam broth base - possibly the best on the Cape if you like the original thin broth brew. UNBELIEVABLY pricey fish sandwiches: a bun w/lettuce and tomato is $11.99 (no sides)!!!!! The chicken salad and clam chowder were more reasonable, but there are no refills on soda..Awful onion rings. The steamed vegetables plate looked great as did the kale soup. If I had to choose between this and Sesuit Habor Cafe for best fare with outside seating I would pick Sesuit - better food with more reasonable prices. And they bring the food to you - no "window" pickup service. Bottom line: Mac's is and always has been over-rated.

“Good Food, Cool Temps.”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

We arrived early at Mac's, not having to wait for a table. All customers were seated outside, at this point. The sun was setting and it was getting a bit cooler. Soon customers were going to their cars to grab jackets, sweaters, whatever they had to try to stay warm. Although there were plenty of outside heaters, none had been turned on. Aside from being a bit chilly, the food was delicious, our appetizers of mussels and a calamari crostini were great. My husband enjoyed his fish tacos while I had a rainbow roll sushi. Waitstaff was efficient but not overly friendly. FYI, be prepared and dress warmly.

“Cape Cod Food”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

Large menu and often a long line to put in your order. Picnic tables scattered on a sheltered wooden deck and on a terrace above the harbor. Rustic. Fried clams the way you remember them as a child, but the prices are modern. The scallops burrito was generous and left a hungry man well-satisfied. Ice cream dishes of excellent quality and variety -- and moderately priced.

“Al Fresco the way it should be”
Reviewed September 7, 2012 via mobile

Eating on a beach next to a pier on a picturesque harbor? Yes, that's the way it should be. What's the surprising thing about Mac's is that their menu is NOT your typical clam shack menu. Yes, there's plenty of standard fried fish on the menu, but they have quite a bit else on the menu that's actually quite surprising. And the food is very good. You go up to the window, place your order, and grab a picnic table on the beach, and wait until your number is called. I had a lobster roll, and though it had a bit more filling than other rolls I've had (celery and onions), it was tasty. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food as well. Ordering was a little challenging in that the reggae music playing over the speakers was a bit loud, so the employee taking the order had to ask us to yell so she could hear it over the music! But the environment is perfect for outdoor dining. Food just tastes better when you're sitting outside overlooking the harbor.

“Overpriced and the food was not impressive”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

This is probably the most advertised restaurant in Wellfleet. The Mac's on the Pier is in a very convenient location, as it is right near Mayo Beach. The ice cream is good, but ridiculously overpriced. $6 for a milkshake!!
The food, as well, is quite expensive for take-out.
The Beachcomber is far, far better!
