Description: Closed for the winter. See you May 2017 When we first opened Moby Dick’s in ‘83, we had no idea we’d become an establishment on Cape Cod. We simply wanted to start a BYOB restaurant that had fresh seafood, a relaxed environment, and a friendly staff that would make people feel at home. Well, three decades later, we’re still doing exactly that, opening every season in May to the delight of locals and visitors alike. Some people stop in for our lobster rolls while others come for an old-fashioned bucket of steamers. But everyone knows they can come to us for fresh family fun and a dining experience in Wellfleet they'll never forget.

We would go back in a heartbeat--if only we lived closer! We were at the Cape for the day visiting Coast Guard beach and this restaurant came as a recommendation for family friendly with good seafood. Sometimes family friendly translates to 'lower your expectations' however, we were very pleasantly surprised. Moby Dick's is clean. The staff was prompt, knowledgeable, and helpful. Though you sit at picnic benches, these are painted and upscale, if you will. We brought our bottles of beer and were given a pail with ice and water to keep them chilled. We shared the 1 1/2 pound lobster, the broiled scallops and the calamari appetizer that was the special that night. We were very pleased--the lobster was cooked perfectly and melted in our mouths. The scallops tasted like they were cooked immediately after coming off the fishing boat and the calamari was tender and delicious. I particularly appreciated that the menu was one of the best children's menus I've seen. It is nice to have carrots and cukes on offer--or even a PB&J. However, the only reason I did not give this restaurant an 'excellent' rating is that the kids food was disappointing. The grilled cheese was not even warm, the mac 'n cheese came from the little blue box--and it was dried out. So we felt like this would be an area for improvement. Other than that, this would be the perfect after-beach restaurant to go to with young children.

We stopped for dinner on Wednesday evening. The clam chowder was superb...best chowder on the Cape by far. The Moby burger was excellent, cooked to perfection. Also had the clam strips. Again, cooked to perfection. Best clams on the Cape. Owner Todd stopped by our table a couple of times to make sure everything was OK. Very friendly and personable staff from around the world. For a good, wholesome meal at a reasonable price, Moby's can't be beat! After dinner be sure to go to Moby's Cargo next door ....all kinds of neat gifts for everyone.....
A meal at Moby Dick's is well worth the wait....don't miss it!!!!

We've patronized Moby's for 25 years and it's always been a favorite for its friendly atmosphere and great, simple seafood. However, we hadn't been there the last few years due to the long line to get in (no reservations). This week our guests (a young couple with a five-year-old) really wanted good lobster so we arrived by 6, with our own good wine.

We were thrilled to find that the line was not that long, that it no longer wound its way through the upper dining area, that there were benches to sit on, and that we were offered a wine bucket and glasses so we could have drinks during our wait. We were informed it might be 45 minutes, but it was shorter and during the wait we had menus (including a kids menu) to peruse and our youngest guest enjoyed the play area with the rowboat. Once at the counter and then when seated, the service was even better and friendlier than I remembered, and of course Mr. Barry, one of the owners, came by to check on us. The food was perfect, although the simple dishes and decor might not satisfy the pretensions of a Boston foodie. An all around great meal and experience. GREAT for families!

We go to Moby Dicks every year. Mr Barry is always there to greet us, and make sure everything is okay, and the staff is always cordial and efficient. Don't be put off by the crowded parking lot and lines. It goes quickly, they are very efficient. The food is very good, seafood is very fresh and the portions are a good size. It's BYOB which is also very nice. Definitely recommend the blueberry crisp and/or chocolate cake for dessert...it is awesome!!!
Very family friendly and the shop next door is a nice stop also...we look forward to dinner here every year!!
