We've been here before for dinner, which was always good. Tried it for breakfast today as there aren't many places open this time of year for breakfast. Great french toast and cranberry walnut pancakes!!

While vacationing on Cape Cod in mid July, my husband & I ate at this restaurant twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast. Our dinner was by far the best of the two experiences.

We had a dinner reservation but there was no table when we arrived (on time). We waited for a table for two and were escorted to probably the worst table in the house (back room at end of bar by wall and service door). We declined the table and then waited a while for a second table that was by far the best (front room, by window). Much happier but had an unusually long wait for the server to get around to us. The server was a bit overwhelmed with her tables but we had a great meal otherwise. She later told us that all of her parties were seated at about the same time so it was understandable in the end although management should not let this happen!

The clam chowder was by far the best I have ever eaten and was the star of the meal. I also enjoyed local scallops and my husband had the "Bistro" Mediterranean style salmon dish, a small version of the regular meal. He is a smaller eater than I and still had plenty to eat. He liked the fact that they offer the smaller dishes since many restaurants serve huge portions and you can't take them home when you are on vacation.

The breakfast was a disappointment a few days later. Everything seemed so mundane compared to the dinner. For pancakes and such, they were offering "real" maple syrup for an additional $2 that was served in an "airplane size" liqueur bottle. I think they should just absorb the cost, buy it in bulk, serve it in a small pitcher and offer the cheap syrup as an option.

We eat at VR's at least once on our annual trip to the Cape. Service is always outstanding. Food is always good. The owners are always on hand and very welcoming. If you are in the Wellfleet area and don t know where to eat...VR's is a great choice - breakfast or dinner.

We had a 10% off coupon from our property manager, who also highly recommended this restaurant. The meal was excellent, our server was attentive and prompt. We were seated upon entry ( this was in mid-October). Agree with other reviews about the salad bar being fresh. We did stop one morning for breakfast (as advertised), but not open.

My daughter and I were on vacation in Eastham and we asked someone at the campground to recommend a nice restaurant, so we followed his recommendation and headed out to Van Rensselaer's. We were on a very tight budget and were able to have a great night and a great meal regardless. The salad bar was excellent, the apps were delicious, and our waiter was kind and attentive. I was able to chat with the owners on the way out, they were very friendly. The atmosphere was family-friendly but also upscale. We would go back.
