“a nice easy walk/hike for all ages”
Reviewed July 23, 2008

we took our 4 children, ages 17, 14, 11 & 3 to the wildlife sanctuary. One kid loves to hike, another hates it outside, one doesn't like to be warm and the little guy well is 3 so it's hit or miss. BUT everyone of the kids enjoyed the nature center. Nice small educattional center, wonderful well marked trails, birding opportunities, can walk to the ocean and see tons of crabs run about in the salt marshes. Wonderful breezes from the ocean and through the wooden area. We had mostly a bug free day but it you will be there for any long period of time I suggest bug repellant. We felt comfortable enough to let our 14 year old walk the trails with his map by himself. Lovely staff willing to explain anything and talk to your kids as well. We saw turtles, toads, yellow finches, orioles, fiddler crabs, seagulls, at least 2 hawks, all sorts of birds I can't identify, gray squirrels, red squirrels, chipmunks and lots more. It seems that you may be able to pitch a tent there as well and they have a very nice picnic area. Clean restrooms inside the nature center. Very clean, well organized.

“Hidden Gem off Rte 6”
Reviewed September 30, 2007

As a long time visitor to cape cod, I was pleasantly surprised by this wildlife reserve located right off Route 6 amongst mini-golf and tacky t-shirt stands. Once you pull off the road and into the santuary it is apparent this is a hidden gem. The visitor's center has maps of the reserve, educational displays of ocean-life and a bird viewing area, which was a flurry with activity. There are many hiking & nature trails, all well maintained and different lengths. One trail is along a salt marsh, where you can see gulls, loons, herons, egrets, and many other species. The fee is $5.00 per person and well worth the cost. Allow yourself a few hours to visit. There are also picnic tables and a small camping area.

“A great place for birding”
Reviewed May 21, 2007

As visitors from the UK, we were not familiar with US birds. They have a bird feeding area at the reception centre, and a helpful member of staff spent time identifying the different species that came, including cardinals, woodpeckers, towhee etc. The trails are a great place to have a peaceful walk, and spot some more birds.
