With north bound migrations, spring on Cape Cod is a bird watchers paradise. Where better to take a walk and watch for wildlife than at the Wellfleet Sanctuary?

I've never been anywhere that looked like this. I went in the winter and didn't see any birds but it was still a beautiful, if windy and cold, place to walk around.

This natural area managed by the Massachusetts Audubon Society features a small education center, gift shop with restrooms, and a number of easy walking trails. Some take you around a small wooded pond area but my favorite take you over sand tails and boardwalk to the unspoiled shoreline of Wellfleet Bay. There are various platform areas where you can photograph birds or ducks. The naturalists also sponsor a variety of programs. One time we took a sunset cruise out to see the sunken Billinsgate Island still visible at low tide.

Wonderful place for bird watching, hiking and observing the unspolied flora and fauna of Cape Cod. You can't shellfish, swim, beachcomb or take anything with you so, there are things here on the beach that you don't see on the Cape anymore, like live oysters on the sand where the creek meets the ocean. Buildings and trails well-maintained although at high tide on some trails might require getting wet. But, that is what I call getting back to nature.

Boyfriend and I recently visited Cape Cod. We enjoy scenic walks along nature trails and decided to check out this sanctuary. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE!!! We strolled along the most popular goose trail and enjoyed views of the bay and saw abundant wildlife..... A brilliant red cardinal, wood pecker, deer and also several squirrels. If you love nature this is the place to go. Truly Heaven on Earth!!!
