“Cape Cod charm”
Reviewed September 25, 2011

The Holden Inn represents the old-world charm that Cape Cod offers. Let me be honest: this is not a four-star hotel. It is not meant to be. If you are expecting luxury, stay somewhere else. If you are expecting simple, endearing and picturesque accommodations, then this is the place for you. The Youngs are a great family - they remember us every year and welcome us openly. They maintain the inn to be a true "inn," with traditional decorating and fixtures. The location is central to both the harbour and Main St. in the centre of town. I highly recommend the Holden Inn to those looking for an authentic Cape Cod experience, one which mirrors Wellfleet's sense of escape from technology and the craziness of life.

My wife and I secured a room with a private bathroom for three nights. We are fairly low maintenance people and figured that the reviews we read could be excused. The grounds themselves are well maintained, and the location is good. Outside of these two positives, there is absolutely nothing acceptable about The Holden Inn. We were there during the "shoulder" season, and our room was colder than the temps outside. There were no efforts to correct the temperature, despite evening temperatures in the 40s. The bed was unbearably hard, creaky (as in, wakes you when you move) and lumpy. The sheets felt unclean: beyond too old, a strange bird print that contrasted the super dated floral print of the comforter (and yellowing, floral print of the very exposed mattress). We could hear absolutely everything in adjoining rooms, the room door was about three inches above the ground. The bathroom was underlit, poorly constructed, and felt dirty. We were uncomfortable even taking a shower, as it felt haggard. Overall, the linens and towels are dated, worn, and mismatched.
Most of the issues we had we would ordinarily let go--dark, creepy, poorly designed, poorly maintained, even temperature--but we ended up leaving a day early because we had such an unbearable night's sleep our second night on the inordinately hard, uneven bed (springs in back kind of thing). There was no one to discuss this with at 9:30am the next morning, as there is seemingly no consistent management presence. The price is low, and we opted to swallow the cost of the third night just to be out of there.
We understand that the Inn is advertised as basic, but there were no discernable efforts to make it even bearable. We are regular visitors to the area, and will never return (or allow any of our friends or family to do so).

I should have trusted Trip Advisor. All the reviews of Holden Inn that described it as horrible - were accurate. The owners should retire and sell the place! It's time for them to give it up! It's just not comfortable. I'm pretty sure the towels and linens were bought 10 years ago at Big Lots or something. There is nothing of quality at this place. I needed an iron, but they didn't have one. The place smells like mildew and it's just an old place with no character or charm. In my opinion, they need to sell this place to someone who would provide quality service.

We just returned from a wonderful weekend in Wellfleet celebrating our family reunion. We had a terrific suite with a sitting room, 2 bedrooms & bath. The room sizes were spacious and very authentic to the area. We could walk to many places, the location was great. The owner was very pleasant & had great suggestions. Thank you for making our stay a wonderful memory to add to our reunion.

The Holden Inn offers basic accommodations at a basic rate. The location is terrific and the porch and grounds are well kept. the water view from the lodge is great. My room was spacious, clean and basic. They don't advertise luxury and their prices reflect that. It was a very enjoyable stay and I would return. They were attentive to any concerns. They offer beach towels and chairs rentals for a buck! Not a B & B which is fine because there are good breakfast options within walking distance. Again, I would return!

Room Tip: The cottage was nice.

We were greeted with the pleasantries of a friendly chap, but went downhill from there. We were allowed to look at the room and were satisfied for the initial peek as the weather was very inclement. Okay lets make due. It was late, raining etc.... Went to dinner at a great place right down the street (Mac's Shack). Came back to the Inn, path underwater due to poor drainage. Called it a night. THEN sheets were paper thin, blankets had odors, pillows damp....poor lighting, cramped dirty bathroom. The surprise in the morning? What was supposed to be a shower was a filthy stall, poor water pressure, resulting in NO shower. No one available in the morning to discuss this CASH only transaction. No wonder eh? Never again!

Room Tip: look elsewhere!

Another person who hides behind a computer screen to discredit a good business. The first problem he encountered during the heavy rains of TS Lee was avoidable by taking the second access to his room. His room has plenting of lighting from table lamps to a ceiling fixture. There is no problem with water pressure as maybe he just doesn't know how to use a shower diverter. Also no mold is present as this room has a preformed fiberglass shower with a gray nonskid base for safety. Another customer who took the weather situation out on us.

If you want to experience what living conditions were like for the underclass at the turn of the 20th century, or maybe you've always wanted to be in a Dickens novel, this is the place for you!! The rooms are tired, musty, dirty, with creepy crawly things everywhere. The "service" is brimming with contempt and disinterest (at best). Try it just for the experience, then you'll have some great horror stories to share with family and friends!

The Holden Inn has had a succesful busines since 1918 and gets better every year as our room occupancy increases and the number of wedding hostings grow in numbers. Go figure on this fake review.
