“Don't eat here”

The hotel and our room was very good. The room was clean, well appointed and very quiet, perfect.
Sadly this was marred by the restaurant. This hotel is out on its own and really is the only place to eat, especially if you arrive late in the evening as we did.
We had a 30 minute wait which was fine but when we got into the restaurant the service was very slow and when the food came it was cold my husband's steak was the worst we have had in the States it was sinnewy under cooked and not fit for sale yet when we called the waitress over to point this out there was no offer of a replacement. In fact we were told well you've come in when a rush was on. If you are not happy we will take $1.69 off your bill this was in fact just 10% off my husband's meal and nothing for the fact that mine was cold.
Needless to say as amatter of principle we didn't have breakfast there the next day.
I think this is really bad that when they are in an isolated position that they abuse the diners in this way. This was the treatment that we received even after we had asked to speak to the restaurant manager. The manager certainly hadn't been on a customer care course and the serving staff were not really interested in the customer other than plonking the food down on your table and going.
The restaurant really let down what was otherwise a potentially good hotel.
I have to say that this has put me off using Holiday Inn's in the future.

Room Tip: We had a quiet room overlooking the pool. Not sure how noisy during the day but sleeping at night wa...

We stayed here five nights as part of a Road Scholar program on the Navajo culture and Canyon De Chelly. The hotel is located very close to the visitor's center. Our room was clean and well furnished. The cleaning staff was only fair as they often forgot to replaces soaps, shampoos, etc. We found the help very friendly and helpful and eager to please. We enjoyed our meals the hotel. Lunch and Dinner included a well stocked salad bar. The Wifi worked, but was inconsistent and often failed. Chinle only has three hotels and I would stay at this one again if ever in the area.

Excellent room. Quiet.Good steak in restaurant. Good location for a visit to the Canyon de Chelly. Had a nice looking pool BUT weather had turned chilly. O.verslept so cannot comment on breakfast. Booked on line and had a lower rate than "turn up on the doorstep" rate. Check out time was 1200 which is useful.

Room Tip: All similar.

The woman who checked us in was polite and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable.

The Holiday Inn policies seem to trap her into helping us get the discounts we should have had for being Priority Club members and AAA members.

The service in the dining area was awful-I asked for food without cheese twice, was assured it could be accommodated and then was brought food with cheese cooked in. After serving us, the waitress disappeared. We were exhausted (14 hours on the road) at dinner and arrived 15 minutes before closing, , and in a rush to get out in the a.m. , so we couldn't get it fixed.

I would call this a motel rather than a hotel. If you are Chinle to visit Canyon de Chellay, it is literally right next door to it - a 5 to 10 minute drive from the centre of town.

I arrived at night and the reception staff were very helpful and freindly, advising me to go straight to the restaurant if I wanted a meal because the kitchen was about to close. They were also very helpful when I checked out. They have a photocopied map of the canyon if you need it.

My room, on the bottom floor was very clean, though it did not have one of those folders that explained the town and the sights and services around it. This was slightly inconvenient because it turned out to be one of the only times I actually wanted to look at one! The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom clean.

The restuarant was fine, service ok - pretty laid back. The motel has a huge parking lot around it and there seemed to be a number of stray dogs which appeared tpo be very healthy and seemed very friendly. Kind of sad.

I'd book ahead. I booked at the last minute and noticed the price went up in the 2 days I was making my decision. The final price I paid, I would classify as too expensive - close to a ripp-off. It's certainy ok as a room to stay in to explore the canyon.

Chinle was very much a stop-off point for us and didn't seem to have that much to offer, apart from the Canyon de Chelly. The hotel was perfectly pleasant but the walls were paper thin and we had a room with a view of a large tree! The pool was closed due to maintenance, which didn't seem to be happening.

Having said that, the gift shop was well stocked and reasonably priced, the on-site restaurant was well priced with plenty of choice (be warned, big portions!) and the staff were pleasant and courteous.

It's not a place I would want to stay for more than a night or two but as a stop-off point if you're passing through, it's fine.

This was our second visit to the beautiful Canyon de Chelly, we visited several years ago and stayed at the Holiday Inn. When I read recent reviews I was worried that we had perhaps made a mistake booking this hotel again. Thankfully, the lovely setting close to the visitor center was as we remembered. The large room was sparkling clean and the convenience of the restaurant a definite plus. The wifi is not a strong point, in fact it went out during our stay. They need to invest in bigger band width. We thought about the location of Chinle and the fact that they have wifi at all is pretty great. This is a National Park setting on a Navajo reservation and we shouldn't expect big city service. Yes, maintenance is a bit of an issue, the ice machine in our building didn't work (but the ice machine just across the parking lot did) and the manager forgets to empty the vending coins so working the washer/dryer can be delayed until he shows up. The only real irritation to us was the fact that the side entrance door on the second floor did not work from the outside and could only be used as an "exit". For those of us with rooms at that end it was very inconvenient. Obviously the card reader on the outside of the door was broken. Canyon de Chelly is a magical place and we all should take a step back when we enter the city limits of Chinle and just enjoy our surroundings. We would definitely stay at this Holiday Inn again.
