Starlike is our "go to" place when entertaining out of town friends. Most can find their way to the many restaurants and bars in the Gaslamp, but Starlite is off the beaten path and a place where only locals go, which adds to the allure.

The food is local, organic, and delicious. Try the Starlite Mule if you can't decide what to drink -- just be careful, as it goes down easy, but has quite the kick.

We had appetizers and drinks before going to a late night show. Portions were very generous and the food was really good. They didn't try to do something they couldn't, just made fairly simple food and made it well. Service was good, waitress was cute and nice. Sunday drink special was excellent.

Decided we were going to visit this restaurant because I've had such great luck with places that believe in "slow food"....natural, local, and lushious.

We started with the clams - shared between my husband and I. Came in great broth and even better homemade bread to sop up the broth. We then ordered one flat iron steak and one melon salad with dried pork tenderloin. We shared both dishes and I can't decide which one I liked best.

Finished off with a shared dessert of a homemade ice cream sandwich and great coffee. Would recommend to anyone.

We were excited to try this place - even if it has mixed reviews on some sites, we were looking forward to trying the cocktails and the local cuisine. They gave us wrong information on the phone about being able to come down and try for a table even without a reservation, and then were extremely nasty at the door. We were happy to land instead at Avenue 5, a much more low-key establishment which still has an outstanding bar and delicious California cuisine.
