We stopped here on the Bite San Diego tour, and this was probably the find of the tour. I've been having trouble with my previous source for Gouda varieties for my Dutch mother, and now I don't have to worry about that anymore.
Venissimo has quite a large selection of very good cheeses. Soft to hard, aged various lengths of time, various add-ins, etc. If you want Gouda, we saw at least 12 different varieties, each labeled with the milk-animal, length of age, source location, and additional ingredients. The same went for cheddar, etc.
Yes, it's not cheap. Good cheese isn't. But $15-$20 a pound for the Gouda locally that I was having shipped in for $15/lb + shipping isn't bad.
Added bonus: They have locally-produced chocolate and other cheese-accompaniments in the store.
