After reading on line that the Dana Inn was so terrible by about 6 reviews I was getting scared. Our trip was booked ! My travel agent assured us they had never had any negative feedback and IF there was a problem, please let them know and we would certainly be accomodated elsewhere. Well !! The four of us were certainly happy with our rooms. Absoluitely lovely and service bar none. We could not find a negative item to report here. I talked with people who stay here often for conferences, etc. I think it is a star 5 place. Shame on the people who posted negative remarks. I understand there are some who do this just to promote another business. A wonderful restaurant on the premises and only a short walk to Sea World. Oh, this was a big hit for us. Thank you Dana Inn !!!!!

After reading all the reviews recently I was very concerned since I pre-paid my reservations. I had a standard room that had been renovated which turned out to be fine with us. We are from Hawaii so being my the marina was a bonus but we spent most of the time at Sea World, Legoland and the Wild Life Park and only used the room to sleep. Please know that the older section is more like a motel room, don't expect anything more unless you stay in the new section which looks awesome! The new pool looks great and would be a nice place to hang out. The marina is great from relaxing, walking or jogging. The location is great, close to Sea World, easy access to the freeways and many commercial places to eat and shop only a 2 minute drive away (Sports Arena Drive). If you go the west on W. Mission Bay drive, you will hit a Mission Beach area (2 minute drive) with a old wooden roller coaster and a small beach community. You can walk, jog or rollerblade down the beach sidewalk. There are small shops and places to eat there also. If you turn north up Mission Blvd, there is a more contemporary beach community area in the Pacific Beach area (5 - 7 minute drive). If you head north further to La Jolla, there is the Children's Beach area (12-15 minutes drive) where the seals hang out on the beach! Ask for directions. If you want a shopping center, Fashion Valley Shopping Center is only 7 minutes away by taking the 8 east. If you want a nice room, get a room in the new section, it you want a standard room, expect a Motel room and make sure you get a renovated room (kind of a sloppy renovation work). PLEASE don't expect more than, I cannot speak for the rooms that have not been renovated! The website info is for the NEW SECTION only! Expedia has a good photo of the standard rooms. Shop around, I got a great deal with the 4th night free! The front desk people were very pleasant and helpful. That's all, hope this helps! Be Blessed!

Nothing but problems. Could not check in on time. Room was dirty!! Found old food under beds, carpets were never vacuumed. They didnt disclose there were not bathtubs only showers. I am a small person 5'2", 135 and I could not get my arms up to wash my hair. Maids did nothing but make the beds and leave what may or may not have been clean towels.
Advertised shuttles to Sea World but they do not tell you they only drop off in the morning and pick up at closing. They do not run any other time.
I will not stay there again. I will pay more and stay where I am not afraid to sleep. The place was just plain old fashioned DIRTY!

From all of the bad reviews that we read on this site, we were a little nervous about our stay...we ended up being pleasantly surprised however! The staff was great, very friendly, which set the tone for the stay. We had a great room with a great view. We had never been to San Diego before, but will definately come back to the Dana. A big thanks to the staff for making us feel so welcome!

We had just come back from this hotel for a weekend stay. I had reserved 3 rooms, and were looking for a place to stay after visiting Sea World. If you stay at the new Dana, the room was just awesome! They all are bayview rooms, and large rooms. You can actually fit 4-5 people in the room. All of our rooms had kitchenettes, with a balcony, and it had a gorgeous view of the bay. After we were done with Seaworld, we came back to our room, and there were fireworks just outside. We were able to just watch it from our balcony. There was also free shuttle that provided transporation to and from Sea World. We ate at their restaurant, the Blue Pearl and the food was good! Staff was young and very nice! They were helpful with everything we requested! The pool was nice also. Would have loved to stay extra nights in this hotel! It is pricey, but hotels these days are pricey, especially if they have ocean/bay views. Also, this part of the hotel was just opened summer of this year, so everything is new. And their standard rooms are bigger than usual. So, if you can, book the new bayview rooms at the new complex.

We arrived early and enjoyed walking around the marina while we waited for our room. Once we entered the room, we knew we were in trouble. The room smelled of mildew and the carpets were filthy. We had to lay our extra room towels on the floor to make path from the bathroom to the bed. There was trash left on the floor from the previous customers. We tried to make the best of it since we had already paid for two nights which were non-refundable. After the first night we decided that we would not let the uncleanliness of the room ruin our vacation. Our only option was to leave at 6:30 AM after the first night and find another hotel. Finding another place to stay for that second night was the best thing we ever did!

The Dana Inn was pretty good. Loved the location of the hotel - very close to Mission Beach. Hotel backs to the water. There were a couple problems with the room upon arrival, but once notified friendly office staff, technicians were knocking within minutes of call to solve the problem. Very prompt. The location of our room was fabulous. Have a 7 and 2 year old. We were in the 200 rooms, right out our door was rec area with foosball tables, ping-pong, shuffleboard and pool. Make a left about 10 feet was pool - gated, securely locked. The sliding door in room that lead to the patio area had an extra lock at the bottom of the door to secure so TODDLERS are not able to get out. The carpet in the room we stayed in was filthy. Wore shoes on the carpet at all times. The room was a bit smaller than usual, but not tiny. Those was pretty much the only complaint that was not resolved. I would probably return to the Dana however if the carpets were replaced that would be great. The new side of the Dana is immaculate however quite a bit higher priced.
