“Nice location - but tired”
Reviewed October 8, 2010

I spent three nights at the Bahia Resort for business in Oct.. I bet at one time this was a premier hotel/resort.

Just being honest here:
1) The elevators in my 5 story wing had issues on several occasions: didn’t work sometimes, wouldn't go to certain floors, closed/not working, etc. (I heard the maintenance man say to another employee, "well, they’re just getting old". Not what you like to hear.
2) My room was very large with a full kitchenette, however, old and dated.
3) The view from my room was great, right out to the bay.
4) Walls were thin. I was woken up by the room next to me using the shower at 5:30am, Sounded like they were spraying the water directly on the wall behind my head.
5) Bathroom tub had cracks, peeling, etc. Not unusual for an aging hotel.
6) Staff was great.
7) Large conference room/ballroom
8) Just a comment here, but my bathroom had the oddest placement for the toilet paper roll. Hard to explain, but just imagine reaching low behind the toilet, and underneath the sink. The designer of this "Contortion Exercise" should be shot!

We stayed at Bahia Resort for an extended weekend and would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in San Diego. We booked a second floor Marina Suite which included a large living room, kitchen and king size seperate bedroom. The room was perfect for our family of 5 and it even had a balcony overlooking Mission Bay which was about 40 feet from the room. We booked our room as part of one of their package deals, we chose the Zoo Package, and it reduced our room rate by 20%.

Check in is a bit late, 4pm, and when we arrived our room was still not ready but the Hotel staff immediately offered us Restaurant vouchers (i didn't even complain). Their grounds are well kept and the views all around are great, the pool was big and empty...we were the only ones using it becasue of some drizzle. In house restaurant was perfect for breakfast and the Hotel is close to the Boardwalk and Belmont Park. We walked to the boardwalk each day. Also was only a 10 minute drive to downtown San Diego.

Only complaint was that they do not offer boat, bike or kayak rentals in the rain.

Didnt quite know that to expect before arrival due to alot of negative reviews. We stayed 2 nights in a studio room with a very handy kitchin. I agree with the recent reviews that you cant expect 5* luxery as this is just a 3* resort. The parking was free, pool looked nice and had fast free Wifi that was good. Room was clean though the room did have a slight musty smell. Nice suroundings and beach on door step. The kitchin was clean and equiped for about 4 people.

My husband and I spent 4 nights in Sept. 2010. We chose the hotel because we had eaten at the restaurant and the hotel was offering a deal. The restaurant patio is still lovely with decent food and drink, a pleasant place for breakfast. The interior restaurant smells like a high school cafeteria from the steam tables. Our room was dirty, the toilet constantly ran, the shower dripped. The hotel has seen its best days and is not worth the price any more.

I'm not sure what people expect when they stay here, but we had a delightful time. The hotel is older and slightly worn around the edges, but it's charming attributes and price more than make up for the Bahia's age. I don't think you will find a better bang for your buck.

Staff were very nice and helpful at check-in. We received a free upgrade to bay view even though the hotel was sold out. We had a studio with kitchen. The full kitchen is great and saved us a ton of money. Room was large and held our lots of our stuff.

A few hundred feet from our room was a choice of a public or private beach. We mainly stayed at the private beach. Water was shallow and calm. Shaded and cushioned chairs were provided. Sand was very clean and soft.

Hotel is acrosss the street from the ocean and Belmont Park. Our children, ages 2-11, had a wonderful time. Easy commute to Sea World and the Zoo as well as downtown.

Friday and Sat night offered a free cruise on the Riverboat Bahia Belle. It was a beautiful 1 hour journey between the Bahia and the Catamaran resort. Again, fun for kids and free! We stayed on the buy 3, get one night free promotion. This brought our room down to a very reasonable rate. I feel the Bahia was an excellant value compared to other hotels.

This is a hotel I would suggest for extended stays for beach time and a great location.

Just returned from 11 days at the Bahia. Friends had been the year before and loved it and came with us again. The hotel was in an excellent location close to the beach and a short bus ride into town. We found the staff very friendly and helpful and ate at the restaurant a few times, no complaints there. Ok the hotel was old, it's been there since the fifties but the grounds were well maintained, the room was comfortable and clean and we had fresh towels every day. Our room was on the other side to the beach and we were warned that there may be traffic noise and lights shining in at night but we had little disturbance and it was quite quiet. At the end of the day if you want 5 star rooms then you have to pay a 5 star price and if you're not in the room very much then I would rather save my money. I would definately go back and I recommend San Diego as a great place to visit.
