Rockstars on staff!!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 13, 2018via mobile
I have been staying at the Bahia Resort Hotel since 2001. While there has always been a resort staff member (or two) that stood out it has never been to the degree of our last three visits (Nov ‘17, Jan ‘18 & March ‘18).

Twila lights up the lobby with her caring and sincere demeanor. It is clear her goal is to connect with each guest and do her best to meet their needs. She also stepped away from the front desk to put on a different hat to share an awesome spring break activity at the pool. Our seven year old had a blast creating with colorful sand. Twila is just as amazing with the young guests as she is with their parents.

The Bahia Cafe has never been staffed better. From the super friendly & accommodating hostess, Katrina, to the manager (Sean) and server, Dani, the hospitality was a five star experience. Hands down, Jean, (who has been at the Bahia Cafe for as long as I can remember) is the most gracious and most attentive server. She is truly a gem! And Jean is quick to credit her manager, Sean, who has clearly built and staffed a friendly restaurant full of happy and service minded servers.

One evening I stopped by the front desk with a few questions. Josephine was at the desk and made another good impression! She was polite & extremely helpful.

I can’t wait to share a longer more detailed review of the Bahia on my website but until then I leave the staff with five stars and the property with four. Thank you, Bahia, for another memorable trip... see you again soon!

The hotel was within walking distance to the beach and restaurants. The room was spacious and clean, but outdated and many things were broken or falling apart. For the price, I was expecting things to be in better condition. The grounds were beautiful and kept up. Enjoyed visiting the rescued seals in the lagoon. We ate breakfast at the restaurant a couple of times and the food was really good. The staff was friendly and helpful. It is within a close driving distance to all the attractions. Overall I think it is overpriced but we had a nice stay.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your time. Although, its concerning to learn that items in your room were broken and we sincerely apologize for this. Thank you for your kind words about the grounds, friendly staff, and our rescue seals, Gracie and Billy. Thank you for choosing the Bahia.

We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate our Anniversary. We enjoyed the time in San Diego and the hotel and grounds were very nice. Enjoyed a drink in the bar, had breakfast--which was okay. Wish they had some lower fat options than bacon. Twila was very nice at check in. We also enjoyed the Bahia Belle on Friday night. Had a nice dinner at the hotel as well.

Room tip: We had a nice view of part of the bay.

So based off the photos online and the glowing reviews we thought that this would be a great place to stay. The first room we checked into was tiny had a view of the parking lot and smelled so heavily of chemicals we had to get a different room. The next room we were moved to was a suite which was a bit larger but smelt like mildew and the AC did not work. We asked for a mechanic to come and he told us that it was cold enough outside so that we didn't really need it and left. The walls had scuffs all over them, the sheets were scratchy and uncomfortable, we found a cockroach on the 2nd day, and there was mildew on the bathroom walls. I understand california prices are a bit different but there wasn't much to do/walk to in this area not to mention the road behind our room was adjacent to a public beach where homeless people were congregating. It didn't feel amazingly safe or welcoming the pool area was nice enough I would just recommend spending the extra money to stay in La Jolla, Pacific Beach, or another area.

Room tip: The rooms on the beach might be nicer

Twila, the receptionist, was very helpful, friendly, kind and patient, as my husband and I didn’ t speak English very well. She did her best so that we may have a memorable weekend. Everybody in the reception was so willing to help. I was really impressed.
