Our family stayed at the Bahia for 3 nights at the end of July. Our room was not ready when we attempted to check in early (noonish), but we gave our number to the front desk so they could text us when it was. When we had not received a text by 3:00, we decided to go back and ask again. The room was still not ready, so we waited in the lobby, where they had lemonade and cookies. We were very tired after our flight from MA and really just wanted to settle in. We were disappointed that our room was not ready until 4:15, at which point we were given a $50 gift certificate to use at their restaurant since the hotel does guarantee a 4:00 check-in. Even when we arrived at the room, the housekeeper was still there finishing up. Although we got off to a difficult start, we ended up enjoying our stay.
The property is a bit out-dated, and I thought the exterior needed some refreshing. Our room was large, had 2 queen beds, and was on the east side of the property, overlooking the public beach. There was a public road/parking that separated the hotel from the bay. Knowing this now, I wish we had requested a room on the 2nd floor. It would have been more enjoyable to take in the view from the balcony.
The pool was fantastic! I loved that it ranged from 2.5 feet deep to 10 feet deep! The shallow end was perfect for my non-swimmer, where he could splash around comfortably. My older son loved doing cannon balls in the deep end. The pool at the Bahia was his favorite part of our whole vacation (and we even went to Disneyland!).
The private beach area was very nice and it was cheap to rent a paddle board. It was just a short walk to Mission Beach and Mission Park. The location was perfect! We had such a great time that I was able to look past the problem areas and would definitely recommend this resort.
