“GREAT HOTEL”
Reviewed September 3, 2008

Great hotel in a perfect location (two blocks from Gaslamp Quarter). The room was big and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was full of nice toiletries, that were duly replenished. Lots of fresh towels and even bathrobes. Free security box within the room and free Internet (with printer) in the lobby. Very helpful employees. The only negative things were the high price of the parking and the constant noise from the exterior. It was a sort of constant loud hum (probably coming from the parking vents) but as it was steady you could sleep, once you got used to it.

Good hotel for the price, close to downtown, that's hall!!
If you visit San Diego on vacation, I suggest to stay in Coronado or la Jolla.

Not the best place, but OK. The room was huge, and a lot of things were fine. But some of the details, like a funky and clearly worn-down bathtub, the bizarre hall carpeting, and the early morning work in the wall next to the room (not to mention the worker making out with his girlfriend in the elevator), gave this place a 'trying to make it' vibe rather than 'got it together'.

Thank you for your review though I am quite interested if you could let me know more about the work and worker himself, as the only item that has been completed recently is the ongoing bathtub reglazing and that has only been completed at a floor at a time while the entire floor has been out of service to our guests.

I stayed 5 nights at the Bristol while attending a conference in San Diego. I attend this conference every year and have stayed at many downtown hotels. The Bristol is a great little boutique hotel - the staff were very accommodating - and the rooms were clean with free internet etc. On the negative side, it is quite a hike from the convention center although close to Horton Plaza and Gaslamp. The biggest problem is the location across from the main bus/transit station which made me uncomfortable (as a woman) walking back alone in the evenings. If I had been with a larger group or with my spouse, this wouldn't be such an issue. I would definitely stay there again, but would choose other hotels over this if their location was a bit closer to the convention center and in a safer area.

Thanks for your excellent review of our services and staff. Our location is always a topic of discussion among both the guests and staff as some prefer us not being in the heart of the gaslamp and being just two city blocks away; while others would like us to be in the midst of the festivities. The convention center is an invigorating six city block hike which is refreshing, though some guests do come down and ask about transportation or shuttle service for the larger conventions. I, of course, prefer to be slightly away so everything is within walking distance, but not in the heart of all the hustle and bustle so I can more thoroughly enjoy my stay.

There's a few things that could have been better. The Service for one, was not very friendly. However, this has been my experience in most of Southern California as we canadians are used to "you're welcome" instead of "uh-huh" as a response. The room was really clean but the shower didn't have a vent so when showering it was like a steam room. The parking was ridiculously priced considering we were staying guests.
However, that said, the location was great, they let us have late check out and the valet always promptly brought around our car. Probably the best service was from the maid and valet guys, which is definitely where it counts. My only regret is that I didn't notice they don't have a pool (neither do most downtown hotels) until I got there. Otherwise, was a fantastic birthday weekend.

Thanks for your review and letting me know about the staff's improper responses. I am confused to your comment about vents as all of our bathrooms do indeed have vents in the showers that are connected to the A/C system, however they do not have a fan like the type that is available in most homes. Perhaps that is the confustion. I apologize for the parking charge, but unfortunately that is a reality of downtown hotels in most cities as parking is a premium. I do, repeatedly, checked the surrounding hotels and we are consistently the most reasonable as our closest competitor charges $28 and others go much higher.

I've stayed at a lot of hotels before and there are 2 things that are really important to me: cleanliness and service. Hotel Bristol was really great in both!

Let me start off saying that I really appreciated how they catered to my note attached to the reservation. They upgraded my room to accommodate for free! Considering that there are a lot of hotels in downtown, the price was great - especially for a weekend. (orbitz)

Their bathroom products were actually really nice, plenty of towels, the bed was super white and clean as well. The pillows were heavenly, and I loved the fact that they had an IPOD dock that you can use with your IPOD to listen to music in the room.

The only thing that threw me off a little was the bathroom door. Instead of an actual door that closes, it slides like a closet. If you're a couple or sharing this room with someone, it might be a little awkward when trying to get some privacy. =)

Overall, I had no complaints about this place at all. I'll most definitely be going back to this place again!
