Wanted to stay near the Gaslamp but not directly in it due to the late night noise. Was a five minute walk or less into the heart of the Gaslamp so it worked out great. Smallish hotel but very nice lobby and extremely nice folks at the front desk. Got to the room and was very pleasantly surprised with the "chic" decor; the room furnishings were very cool (unlike your standard Hilton or Marriott). Bed was quite comfy as were the pillows. Hotel seemed relatively quiet as we didn't hear any neighbors or much noise from the hallway. Just a very nice place. FYI, valet parking is $26 a night but that's par for the course in any downtown area.

Didn't have time to check out the lobby bar/restaurant, so no comment there.

Dear SDFunSun,
Thank you for a great review; it is greatly appreciated. I am so glad you enjoyed our downtown San Diego location within walking distance to the Gaslamp and many other sighs such as PetCo Park and Seaport Village. Thank you for mentioning our chic décor, quiet accommodations and friendly staff. As you noted, our Valet Garage is moderately priced and we intentionally price ourselves between $8-$12 less than the surrounding hotels and surface parking lots. We also offer a 50% discount on overnight parking when driving a Hybrid Vehicle.

On behalf of the Bristol Team, thank you for selecting our hotel and we look forward to your next visit!

Yours truly,

The Bristol Hotel is my "go to", home away from home, when traveling to San Diego. I have enjoyed the hospitality of this boutique hotel many times. It is a great location and as a woman sometimes traveling alone I feel very safe. The staff is always very accommodating and friendly. My one negative comment is that I sometimes find the water drains slowly in the shower. This is easily fixed by removing the plug, which the ever efficient housekeeping staff always seems to put back into place when left on the side of the tub. Very good all around value.

Room Tip: If you want less noise, ask for higher up or away from the 1st Avenue side.

Dear Vicvegas2014,
Thank you for making the Bristol your "go to" hotel when staying in San Diego. This is greatly appreciated, thank you for your loyalty! I will share your review with our staff and they will be pleased to read that you had acknowledged their friendliness and accommodating demeanor as well as our excellent housekeeping staff who not only does a great job in keeping your room spotless, they also look after your shower drain plug, returning it back in place when removed.

As you mention, the Bristol Hotel offers excellent value, safe and comfortable accommodations in a great location, just steps from the convention center, Petco Park, the waterfront, Little Italy and the Gaslamp Quarter.

On behalf of the Bristol Team, once again a big thank you and we look forward to your return visit.

First of all, loved the hotel but the staff was amazing! Efficient and friendly, from the valet to the front desk. We rolled in at 6:30 in the morning and were granted the earliest early check in ever. Helped make our day go smoothly to get out bags up in the room!! Thanks very much....
The rooms at the Bristol are budget boutique. Cool black and white style. We has the king sized room which had a lot of space, comfortable bed/pillows. The bathroom includes a robe and slippers, but the shampoo etc is not the best quality but works if you didn't bring your own. I did notice some staining on the walls of the bathroom / desk area but the room was in good clean, working order overall.
It is about a half mile walk to the gaslamp, so excellent location. There is some street noise due to downtown location, but the hotel kindly provides earplugs in the event you need to block out the noise. A bar and restaurant are located downstairs. Didn't eat but did get a drink with a coupon voucher, another perk. Overall, highly recommend the bristol for value ( get the parking package if you have a car- the valet was always speedy to get our car out), location and comfort.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street to reduce street noise.

Fantastic hotel, very polite and great information given of what is near by. The hotel is in a fantastic location - about 5 minute walk from the Gaslamp Quarter area. Plenty of restaurants, bars within that area. The room was great however it had a little weird smell but it was manageable.

After doing a lot of research we picked the Bristol as our hotel for our 5 night stay during Christmas week. I had booked a private room with private bath at a downtown hostel months in advance, but as December approached (which can be low season for certain cities) hotel prices started to go down, so I booked a hotel instead, also downtown. About a week later and approximately 2 weeks before our trip, I found a great rate on the Bristol’s web site which included parking, so I switched it. Parking comes at a premium downtown San Diego, which is no different than any other big city.

This hotel has an excellent location downtown San Diego and just blocks away from the Gaslamp District, where all the actions happens. I read other reviews where guests thought it was a bit too noisy, but we only heard a truck here and there, after all whenever you stay downtown at any big city in the world, it’s very hard not to hear any street noise. I had requested a room in a quiet area.
The staff was friendly, especially one particular guy at the valet parking, I wish that I could remember his name, he was extremely nice and we made sure to tip him every time!

Free wi-fi but no breakfast was included, but they have a restaurant connected to the hotel.

The room and bathroom looked exactly like the pictures they have on their web site, except that they were a bit smaller, well I know that they usually “enhance” their own pictures, but overall, it was an ok size and the beds were comfortable, we were in room #705. There was a mini-bar in the room and upon check-in we were told that we could remove the items in it (they weren’t time sensed) and use it as a mini-fridge, which was great.

I’d stay at this hotel again if the price is right (there are a lot of options downtown San Diego) and recommend it to others as well.
