“Loved this Residence Inn!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2008

We just returned from a 3 night stay at this Residence Inn, San Diego Central. We were able to check in early which was so nice after a long drive. We were met with smiling faces at the front desk. We loved our penthouse suite!! The set up is perfect for our family of five. The two girls slept upstairs, our son on the foldout sofabed and my husband and I in the downstairs king bedroom. During the day, it was great to take a nap and have the kids upstairs watching tv. The furnishings were nice with granite marble countertops. Housekeeping supplied us with many towels and kept the room very clean. We really appreciated how warm the pool was. Alot of hotel pools are heated but not this warm. It was like warm bath water. On Thursday night, they had a complimentary BBQ which consisted of hamburgers, pasta, fresh fruit, chips, soda, brownies, etc. It was wonderful!! The grounds were very pretty and nicely kept. It was a short 10-15 minute drive to Sea World and was not so crowded as other closer hotels. We would definately stay again!

My family spent a week at the Residence Inn in a Penthouse Suite. We absolutely loved it. We put our children (8, 5, 2) in the King Bedroom which had its own bathroom. We were able to close their door and have the rest of the place to ourselves at night. Our room was an upstairs loft (queen) with another bathroom. We ended up making many of our meals in the kitchen and the maid service always loaded and unloaded our dishwasher for us. We ate a hot breakfast every morning in the lobby and felt they had a nice selection (waffles, bagels, eggs, muffins, etc) We also enjoyed the food and drinks in the lobby on the week nights. Despite the fact that it was only in the 60's out, the pool was so warm that we went in it every day. We had it to ourselves which the kids loved. When our kids saw the room, they said, "We rented a house??" to tell you how big it was. I can't think of any complaints. We actually liked the location. It was very easy to get on the freeway from there and only about 15 minutes to the zoo or the ocean.

The worst thing about this hotel would have to be the location. You are not exactly close to any of the attractions but situtated in what seemed like an industrial zone. The hotel is also closely situated to some kind of airport or base and you can hear jets/planes overhead most of the time. I'm not usually bothered by noise but this was really loud. We were told over the phone prior to booking that the hotel was very close to tourist attractions such as seaworld and the san diego zoo and that a cab would cost about $10-15. We later discovered the cab would cost closer to $50 each way. You can catch public transport but to get to the zoo for example you might need to take 3 buses and it will probably take you well over an hour.

On the upside the staff were very very helpful. Probably among the most helpful and pleasant staff we have ever come across.

The rooms are quite nice, clean and spacious though it might be time to update the bathrooms and the bathroom amenities.

Food is not great but its free- well it was when we were there. The hotel offers free drinks and internet access which was nice.

Probably wouldnt stay there again because of the location but if you have a car and you're not bothered by noise then the place is great value for money.

We stayed here while visiting family on Christmas. Since there were four of us, plus two medium sized dogs, we booked a penthouse suite. The suite was very roomy, clean, and was a great place to relax and recoop after the hectic holiday. It was also nice to have the kitchen as we could make up some meals and snacks as needed.

Although the hotel is in an industrial area, we found the place to be very quiet and safe. My husband is a runner, and was able to do his morning runs around the neighborhood without incident. There are a few other hotels nearby and this hotel happens to be next to a Shriner's Temple.

This hotel also has some heated spas, a swimming pool, a fitness center, and a paddle tennis court. If it wasn't winter, I'm sure I would've used these.

I will definitely stay at this hotel again. The staff was very professional, helpful, and friendly.

Checked in after a long flight, I decided to take a bath and had no hot water. Called the front desk and was told to keep the water running for a while until it's hot. When I finally convinced the reception clerk that there was no hot water in the studio, she checked
and called me back later saying that maintenance shut down the water heater for the whole building but did not tell her. We had to repack and move to another studio in another building. Before unpacked, I decided to check the water. No hot water again! One more move and we finally got a room with hot water!

The hotel is more like an apartment complex. It would be a long walk to breakfast if your room is located far from the front office. Breakfast and cocktail hour are good but not enough of tables and chairs.

Internet connection is hard wired, not wireless.

The hotel is located in a industrial location. The neighborhood makes you feel unsafe. Especially there is a temple of some sort next door with a large, isolated parking lot. There is no fence or wall to seperate the parking lot from the hotel. During the night the empty parking lot gives me an uneasy feeling.

The hotel itself needs some rennovation. It's OK inside rooms. However the lobby where breakfast is served is depressing. There is always a stale smell in rooms. We asked for a non-smoking room. But their idea of "non-smoking" is to have some air filter machine running overnight before the next guest check-in.

The staff has been friendly though. But I'd not want to stay in this hotel next time I come to San Diego, primarily because of the location.

We travel as a family of four with two little ones and we're always looking for a 1 or 2 BR suite. This hotel was everything we could have imagined. Simply perfect....and it was a very good AAA rate.

Location couldn't have been better, just off CA163 and I-15. Made the short drive to Qualcomm Stadium easy and Sea World was just 11 minutes away. Very quiet location separated from Kearny Rd by a gas station and parking lot. Had its own free parking and also shared parking with a neighboring hotel and Shriner's temple.

Had a 2-BR "penthouse" with a King downstairs and a Queen in a loft upstairs. Both BRs had full baths. TV and phone in each. Rooms were spotless and updated. Hi-speed internet connections in King BR (with desk). "Kitchenette" was effectively a full kitchen with diswasher, oven, stove, refrig, microwave. Eating area was a marble countertop with seating for 2-4. Living room had TV, phone, small desk, sofa & two chairs. The suite was new, super clean, and well-maintained. Like a new furnished apartment.

There was a tennis court/basketball court near the lobby and a fitness center. Didn't check out the fitness center, but there was also a heated pool and a hot tub on premises that were in good shape.

Free breakfast in the morning was well-stocked with a wide range of food and drinks. Nice lobby area, but bot enough seating for breakfast. There is additional seating near the pool deck. Free USA Today and SD paper in the lobby.

Staff was very helpful and courteous. We checked in early and it was no problem. There was some work that needed to be completed on one of the three TVs in the room, and it was done within 10 minutes.

  • Liked — Absolutely perfect room.
  • Disliked — That it made my own house seem inadequate.
