Family just needed a clean place to stay overnight in the San Diego area over the weekend. This place more than fit the bill. Although we reserved a standard two bed room and were using a Marriott voucher, they upgraded us to a suite with a King bed + bath, a separate living area and full kitchen and an upstairs queen bed + second bath in a loft area. Sweet suite!

This might have been because the hotel was not particularly crowded and/or because they did not have our reserved room ready when we arrived at around 2:30 or 3 pm. Or, possibly because when we arrived, there was a man who was arguing with one of the clerks very loudly and (it seemed to me) quite unreasonably. After the man left, the clerks apologized but i thought they handled the disgruntled customer very professionally and calmly. I sympathized with them and I think they appreciated that. In any event, we stepped out for a snack and when we returned, they had our suite ready for us.

My teenaged daughter loved the idea of having her own loft bed and bathroom. We loved the extra room and used the full fridge to cool sodas and waters, used the microwave to cook up the complimentary bag of popcorn and used the range to heat up some water for a cup-a noodle snack that night.

I also used the pool because it was a particularly hot day. the pool was pretty utilitarian but it did the trick to cool me down. The complex is long and narrow with many buildings on either side of a central walkway. The path has some basic but nice plants around it. As all Residence Inns seem to have, there also is a small sports court with a basketball hoop.

Residence inns also offer a free breakfast buffet and this one seemed to have enough seating/tables for comfort. The fare is pretty standard: scrambled eggs, potatotes, pastries, oatmeal, cold cereal, waffle maker, yogurt, juice and hot drinks.

The hotel is called "central" and it is fairly well located if you have a car. (not much to walk to; next to the freeway). My guess is the pricing is competitive with places on Hotel Circle but you get more than most of those hotels -- a kitchen, seating area and breakfast, in addition to free parking. I believe if you stay during the week, there is a manager's reception with what looked like heavy snacks; you can probably cut down on dinner costs by eating up at the reception. (None during the weekend, though.) And, if you reserve a suite, families ought to be pretty happy.

Room Tip: I suspect each building has the same or very similar layout to each other. But within each building...

Very friendly staff. We arrived a early into town and we allowed check-in "very early".

Rooms were very clean and spacious. Breakfast in the morning was surprisingly good for a free breakfast.

Basketball/tennis court is located on the property. It was a good workout shooting hoops.

My experience at the hotel was nothing less than Excellent. The hotel staff greeted us with a warm welcome. The room was nothing less than perfect. The rooms have a full kitchen with bar, sitting area, large flat screen TV that is viewable to bedroom and sitting area/kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Very comfortable bed and to top it all off there is a heat lamp in the bathroom. The breakfast was very good. The staff has pre printed cards that will take you to/from all the major attractions. They also provided a list, 4 pages, of all the resturants within a 5 mile radius of the hotel. The check out process was the quickest I have ever done. We had people above, beside and behind us in rooms and never heard the first noise. Great stay, great staff.

Room Tip: We stayed towards the rear of the property and our room was excellent.

This was our first trip to San Diego area, we stayed here for 9 nights. I did a lot of reading and research and this seemed to be the place everyone recommended, and they were dead on. The rooms were super clean, the staff was amazing. The free breakfast was great too, even the manager's meals from Monday to Thursday were good. We were here with our 9 year old son, and we highly recommend it for families or people who just want a great well managed hotel to stay. Can't not say enough once again about the staff, from Ray the manger to the cooks in the kitchen during breakfast they went out their way every time we needed anything. And for location amazing spot for going to Zoo, Safari park, La Jolla, Legoland etc... close to everything.

Room Tip: We had a top floor very quiet but if do not like stairs request bottom suite.

The service is absolutely well above expectation. The people are incredibly friendly and helpful. The accommodations are standard Residence Inn, and location is probably farther from Downtown San Diego than we like, but the service more than made up for it. Since we want to see UCSD and La Jolla beach, the location is fine

The afternoon/evening guest cookout reception was great

I am truly surprised by the enthusiastic reviews of this property. To begin, it really is in no man's land. If you are doing business in the industrial parks of Kearney Mesa, then perhaps it makes sense. If you are visiting San Diego as a tourist, you may find the central location somewhat useful, but you will hardly feel like you are on vacation. Kearney Mesa is, to say the least, not one of the prettier parts of the city, and the reviewer who was concerned about nighttime safety is not being unreasonable. I suggest the Mission Valley property instead as far as location goes. No amount of rehab of this hotel is going to save it from its lousy location and lousy layout.

This property is really quite large and if you are down at the far end (buildings 12-18), you will have a real hike through a slightly confusing maze to get to breakfast and to the rather small pool. Forget about walking food back to your room. It's just way too far away. The breakfast is not bad, but get there early if you want to avoid the ill-behaved children's soccer teams. The evening reception is disappointing. The chili is from a can. The wine is vile, and making matters worse, they chill the red wine. The only beer is Bud lite. Not even ordinary Bud (not that either is any good."

The rooms are not terrible, but they are not true suites. They are all studios. In other words there is no separate living room. The kitchen has pretty much everything you need to cook a decent meal and there is a grocery store just a mile west called Food for Less, which is actually a pretty good grocery store with really good prices (Amsterdam Gin for 14.00!) but is pretty down market in appearance. If you need signs to tell you what is on what aisle, forget it. Very good produce.

If you are enthusiastic about Asian dining then this is your neighborhood to be sure. There is a superabundance of Asian dining opportunities in Kearney Mesa. If you would like your children not to ask you what a so-called "gentlemen's club" is or "adult bookstore" (even though real gentlemen and real adults don't go to these places) you might want to look for another property. If jet airplane sounds from Miramar sounds like freedom to you then you might like this place. If they sound like tax dollars going up in flames you might not like it.

Room maintenance was very attentive on an internet access problem. No wifi in the rooms. You have to plug into the cable.

The property is worn down.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the pool. The higher the number of your building the longer your walk.

Clean - spacious - well equipped; I stayed in a suite for business. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were not the best. Would stay here again, but only for business due to the fact that it is located next to a military base and one night jets were going up and down for hours. I don't think I would want that for a vacation.
