the restoration is elegant and tranquil. The bar and lounge offers an unusual and tasty menu and the appetizers during happy hour are sizable portions and reasonably priced. Our waitress was attentive. Its close to the gas lamp quarter. We'll definitely be back

Recently stayed at the US Grant Hotel in SD. It is a historical looking building from the outside and has an impressive lobby areas/decor.
The location was perfect, right downtown and within walking of the many restaurants(Gaslamp).
Staff were very friendly, room was very clean, spacious and comfortable to sleep in.
fitness areas has free weights and several treadmills/elliptical trainers, it will definitely hold you over while away.
Surprising the gift shop which also acts as coffee house was only open on weekends? The one restaurant/bar serves free coffee in the morning and is the only dining area. I thought it strange that a hotel of this size had limited places within.
WiFi- which I used in the lobby area is free and had excellent coverage.
Travel tips for the parks: the Zoo was $12.00 taxi each way and sea world was $25.00 each way. There are other methods to travel but this was the quickest and easiest.

I would stay here again, and do recommend this hotel.

My family and I stayed at this hotel on New Years weekend, this hotel supposed to be the best of the best (5 stars), I don't see why. Other than the location, no pool, no free parking, no free wi-fi, no breakfast, hotel has dark hallways, old very old style.

Greetings,

My what an impact a hotel stay can have to recall back all the way to New Year's in Sept! We can only apologize for not overdelivering on the service elements of your stay. Much of your feedback is important to our travelers but are hard business facts for us in our downtown environment. We wish that we could be all things to all people but we know that we will never be successful at this, nor has this hotel in its 102 years.

Best wishes and we hope that you enjoy your life's journeys.

We stayed here this weekend in a standard King room and the room was a very nice size, with an extremely comfortable bed. It was nice to have AC in the room, as many historic hotels don't have it. The hotel itself was beautiful inside and out, located in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego. You could walk easily to all of the restaurants and shops. They did charge $38 a night for valet on the weekend, however, I've never seen any San Diego hotel with valet cheaper than $22 a night anyway and those hotels weren't as nice as this one. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel does not have a pool, but you can make arrangements to use the pool at the hotel across the street if you are looking for one and there is a nice gym here too. A special place to stay if you don't mind splurging a little.

Room Tip: We stayed in #413, which was far from the elevator traffic, but we could hear a bit of street noise...

Maria,

Thank you for looking past our shortcoming to the gem that lie beneath! Not having a pool means we get to send our guests to a choice of other neighboring hotels to enjoy their amenities in addition to our own! Time has changed this property we agree and having AC is an important factor. What is more important is that all of our guest rooms now have functioning bathrooms where only 30% had them when the hotel first opened in 1910! Now that would be interesting!

We hope to see you again soon,

I stayed here recently while in San Diego for business. This is a great hotel and I would gladly return for business or pleasure. I found the staff at the front desk to be incredibly helpful and pleasant. As I was walking down the hall to my room, I was a little hesitant because the halls are dark and the carpets are in need of replacing. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my room was the exact opposite - clean, modern and stylishly decorated. I had dinner in my room and the service and food were perfect. I had breakfast in the hotel restaurant the following morning and was again treated to great service and superb food. I think this hotel is a fantastic value!

Stayed here for a girlfriends mini getaway. Our double room was a little smallish but typical of a historic building. It was classy and cute. The elevator ride to our floor was a little unnerving. And, It's definitely time for some renovation of the hallway carpets - looking more than a little worn and more shabby then chic. There lots of great food places within walking distance, a fun comedy spot close. The Grant's cafe serves a ridiculously yummy lobster risotto. I would recommend this as a weekend getaway spot.

We had been travelling around California, with San Diego being our final stop before flying home. After leaving Las Vegas we thought it couldn't get any better. However the US Grant was fantastic, and the service from all staff we dealt with was far above and beyond what we had expected. They couldn't do enough to try and help!

The hotel was lovely, beautiful lobby and the rooms were well kept. Location fantastic, nice and close to plenty of restaurants and the concierge was happy to recommend some good places to eat locally.

All in all a really fantastic final hotel on our holiday. Hopefully we will back again - we were sad to leave!
