This is now my third week in a row, and 6th time overall staying here. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences!

My first few times here was over a year ago, while they were doing renovations. One room then was a bit out-dated, but still very clean, and was right next to the pool and had a gorgeous balcony over looking it!

Now just a few weeks ago I got to come back, and I am so impressed with the renovations! This hotel is beautiful! They really kept the old/vintage charm, while making it new and beautiful. My first room was 116, I loved this room! It was HUGE! The next time I had a regular size room, and then today I got upgraded to a beautiful suite complete with balcony and fireplace!!

I LOVE the wall paper, carpeting, and colors they decorated with. The beds are always comfortable, the lobby and pool are beautiful, staff is always SUPER nice, especially Sydney!

I also like the area, theres some good restaurants within walking distance and theres a piano bar attached to the hotel that is really cool. They also have another bar/restaurant inside that is really nice and has great service.

Room Tip: All the rooms are awesome!

Cleanliness of the room is average. I was disappointed for free internet access because the no. of users for this hotel has limitations. Free Wifi users is not guaranteed. When I've checked in the front desk said that the Wifi maximum no. of users has reached therefore they can't further grant access to it. Also the room is not sound proof. If someone is walking outside of your room you can basically hear it. I was sound asleep and was awaken by a bunch of people walking outside of our room. Limited car park too. Not guaranteed. I have to park my car close to our room but sometimes I have to park somewhere far because the car park is full.

Room Tip: Rooms are not sound proof. Expect disturbances from your neighboring rooms or people that walks outs...

We were there for Memorial Day week-end. The rooms are borderline basic. No full-view mirror (rather inconvenient as we were attending a wedding). Our room was near a whooshing pipe that was very loud and couldn't be turned off. The lobby needs renovating. Guests are asked upfront for a $100 deposit to cover incidentals. It's refunded upon departure, but as guests are also asked for their credit card, it gives the rather bad impression that the hotel expects its guests to trash the room. The restaurant is excellent for breakfast with very pleasant and helpful wait staff. Very good Russian restaurant across the street.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main water pipe...

We chose this hotel originally because it was close to family living in San Diego; this was our second time at the Lafayette. It is not very close to any of the main tourist sites, except for Balboa Park. BUT it is a place unlike any other. It is an historic building, with a variety of room sizes, containing two restaurants and bar service. It attracts a variety of visitors of all ages, but heavily weighted toward late 20s - 30-ish guests. The weekend we were there, there was a DJ out beside the pool with enthusiastic dancers, a grand piano in the main lobby, and life-sized checkers and chess in side patios. Public rooms are agreeable for reading. The staff is quite knowledgeable and nice. There is parking beneath the hotel. This is the opposite of a cookie-cutter mainstream hotel chain lodging.

Room Tip: Ask for what variety of rooms are available for each price category, in the "main house,"...

Great tip! All of our Manor rooms are a little different, which adds to the charm of the hotel. Glad you enjoyed your stay with us!

We traveled during some sort of event which ended up being a ton of fun. Had an issue with getting to the pool, but Bianca and Jamaica were a great help. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Pool suites are full of fun!

Great medium sized hotel, with free internet in rooms, free underground parking, a heated outdoor pool, stunning large pool terrace and a pay-as-u-dine eatery inside.
Right next door and accross the street are two lively friendly bars also serving food until very late.
Access to the city is a $15, fifteen min cab ride or you can use the bus. Prices for food and drink increse dramatically downtown so be on your guard!
Absolutely no complaints about the hotel. Warm, friendly greeting on our arrival. Would definately stay there again.
