Stayed for a long weekend over the summer (july 2014)...
ok 1st the good.. great service, nice location close to gaslanp, parking in very good for being downtown (32/night), close to the trolly.

now the not so good... biggest problem, When you book a room, the price should include what you are going to have to pay for your stay... So the 15.00/night required charge for the slow WIFI which free at say Holiday Inn, newspaper which I never read nor needed, and there is no ice machine, you need to call for someone to bring you a bucket. And pool hours are only until 10pm.

Overall a nice stay, close to places to eat and easy access. But hotels should be required to state required charges or include them in they total room cost so you can make a informed decision on overall cost. If plan on parking, add a 50.00/night to you cost and you will have a real per night cost.
I have stayed at the HIlton, Westin downtown and would rate this as on par with this locations.

Room Tip: side opposite the trolly

Perhaps the best hotel I've ever stayed at! Reasonable yet luxurious! Turn down service, chocolates on your pillow, immaculate and beautifully furnished. David at the desk was so kind. He addressed us daily by name and always asked how are visit was going. My 10 year old thought he was great as he always listened intently as my son told him about our adventures. I would stay here again anytime!

The Westgate Hotel is as close as you get to a resort outside of the Caribbean. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Every night when we returned to our room, there were chocolates on our bed and a full ice bucket in our room! The hotel is conveniently located in San Diego. We were able to walk to great restaurants and all over the Gaslamp area. It's close to the trolley and buses that can get you anywhere you need to go. The hotel has a historic and glamorous vibe. I had a wonderful time and would absolutely stay here again.

Stayed here for 2 nights in July 2014. Valet parking is underground and $32/day. At check in, they upgraded us to a room on a higher floor (nice touch and nicer view). The hotel is situated on the edge of the gas lamp district and literally across the street from Horton Plaza. We walked around the gas lamp district for drinks and dinner. The rooms are nice size with a big bathroom sink and sitting area. The shower is a combo with a square bath tub. Turn down service happened every night. We also had the sunday brunch at the hotel (45/pp) including drinks( we had mimosas and bloody mary's. A nice selection of hot and cold items including a caviar bar with all the fixings. Probably one of the best hotels i've stayed at in San Diego. Would return.

Room Tip: probably the higher the better. there was some ambulance noise. not sure if we are near a hospital...

The Westgate is one of those special hotels you will remember for the rest of your life. Impeccable decor and world class service. Anything you need is a phone call away. The front desk staff was very professional and got us in our room earlier than we anticipated. Shraddha Carlin was wonderful booking 2 trips for us. In addition her dining recommendations were spot on. She even knew the sports bar for us to view the World Cup games in a friendly comfortable environment. The showers were roomy and luxurious and the king size bed was very inviting. The location near a shopping plaza and the gaslamp district made everything very convenient for us to walk to. When we return to SD, the Westgate will be our hotel of choice. Kudos to their Customer Service focus.

The fasciities are lovely beautiful room well kept, lovely staff very very friendly and helpful. Lovely large pool with nice fresh water machine , although it topped up when it ran out.
But all night this piano and saxophone jaz back ground music from the lobby. I was on the 10 th floor and when I called my mother she could hear it. Then more music by the pool. I would rather provide my own music but just want peace and quiet. Why this music all night. Even when I called down it was still playing. Shame as the hotel is so nice.

Room Tip: Make sure they don't play this jaz music all night it disturbs your rest
