“Beautiful and the staff were pleasant and helpful”

I was very pleased with my stay at this hotel. It is a few blocks from the Coronado Bay, so not on the water, but there were several views of the water between other buildings. The cleaning staff were exceptional, the food in the hotel was excellent. The exercise machines were outdoors, but covered by a roof. It was a very pleasant stay. My only complaint was the level of noise from traffic/sirens in the city. I stayed on the 12th floor.

The Westgate is a lovely older hotel in a great downtown location. Friendly staff and a wonderful room with a great view. We loved the Havana Night Under the Stars on the rooftop outside our room. San Diego has an amazing public transportation system that will get you almost any where you want to go in the city. We used a cab on Friday evening to get to and from a nice seafood restaurant in the Harbor. We are in our 70s and had no problems seeing the Zoo, Old Town, Balboa Park Museums, the Harbor, and a sight-seeing trip up the coast to Oceanside to walk on the Old Wooden Pier. Great value for a lovely trip to an amazing destination.

Room Tip: The Horton Plaza is one block away with dozens of interesting shops and stores.

Like many others, I always rely on Trip Advisor to book hotels on our vacations. Once again, we were not disappointed. The Westgate was perfect from check in to check out. We have never seen all hotel staff, who genuinely enjoy their positions with any hotel as we witnessed here. We were always greeted with a warm smile and "Can I give you directions", Is there anything else I can do for you today", and "Welcome back" after our daily excursions. Tremendous staff from top to bottom. Really made our stay very, very enjoyable. Congratulations to Management and all staff at The Westgate on this.

The Hotel itself is warm and inviting. The lobby is worthy of relaxing and taking in all that it offers.
The rooms are large and well laid out. Never had an issue with anything during our 7 days stay.
The pool and 3rd floor area is a great place to relax for a few hours.

The location is fantastic. Gaslamp district a block away. Short walk to Little Italy and San Diego Harbour. In fact nothing seems to be too far away from downtown San Diego, so a great starting point for excursions.

We have travelled to many locations, and we usually never stay in the same place twice, simply because we enjoy trying new places to stay. I can say without hesitation, when we return to San Diego we will stay at the Westgate Hotel.

My friend and i just stayed at this older but elegant hotel last week. It's in a very downtown area unfortunately riddled with many homeless people and dirty streets. It's like the "diamond in the rough". The lobby is very old world looking with antiques and winding staircase but i felt like it was a ghost town. We practically saw NO other customers our entire stay!!! Halls were empty! The staff were quite nice and accomodating. Don't be fooled by getting a "bay view" room because you are so far from the water, it doesn't matter and there many bldgs in your way anyway. Also, the windows in the room DO NOT OPEN so if you want that "bay" breeze, forget it. I understand that it's for safety reasons but what a drag that was as i love fresh air. The room was very nice and comfy beds but bathroom needed an upgrade. Also, there's no safe in the room so i had to carry any expensive things with me to the gym, pool, etc. There is no cafe but only a pretty but kind of stuffy fine dining restaurant. I didn't eat there so i can't comment on food. it is a beautiful room though.
I will tell you that we ate dinner at the US GRANT hotel (The Grant Grill) next door and it was AMAZING!! The hotel was gorgeous and very very busy will lots of beautiful people to watch! I'd stay there my next visit if i have to stay downtown.

Room Tip: Rooms facing west "bay view" don't have open windows to outside. And really not a good...

We have stayed in many 5 star hotels but on arrival here we were blown away by the majestic hotel that the Westgate is. It was so elegant and the staff super attentive. The room was magnificent and decadently decorated. It was very large with a powder room and a large bathroom. It was quite of a night even though you could hear the tram horns we loved it and it didn't interrupt our sleep. The turn down service is a real treat especially the chocolates. In a great spot where you had that many restaurants to choose from you just couldn't choose where to eat. We did lots of tours but the trolley tour was great and got you too everywhere u could want to go to. We were sad to leave there this morning :(

Loved the attention to detail - from lobby to room to roof top fountain outdoor lounge and swim area - to especially the staff and service! This was my first trip to San Diego. Our Chief Concierge was extremely helpful and accommodating to making our short weekend as fun and memorable as possible. The hotel is conveniently located downtown with easy access to the trolleys and minutes away to major attractions. My daughter and and I felt very well taken care of.

Fairly pricey for the rooms, but the location to all things downtown was good. Loved the pool and outdoor weight room and track. Green apples were provided at the pool with cucumber water to quench your thirst after a run or swim in the large lap pool. Ample sun bathing deck adjacent to the pool and hot tub.
