I got stuck in San Diego for three days after Sandy hit the East Coast and my flight back to NY was cancelled, and I happened upon this hotel by chance. The front desk staff, especially Paula & Greg, were fantastic, there's no other word for it! Thanks so much for your patience with my ever-changing reservation status due to the hurricane, and your warm welcome. The rooms are decorated in period style, which added a nice cozy touch.

Thank you very much for staying with us and writing a review of our hotel. While we are very sorry about Sandy and all that has happened to you and many others, we are fortunate your found us. We have passed along your marvelous remarks to Paula and Greg. We look forward to your return, and certainly during an East Coast non storm time.

So they say this hotel is haunted...but that isn't why we stayed here. This was our second time at the Horton Grand and definitely not our last. Rooms are very antique looking (in a good way) and decorated with classic furntiure and fixtures that really take you back in time. Although, the auto lighting fireplace and HD TVs add a nice modern touch. The location is perfect for anyone wanting to visit the gaslamp district and not worry about driving (since that can be a challenge on busy weekends and all of the one way streets). There is a daily charge of $25 for valet parking (in & out privileges) but when you factor in the room pricing, completely worth it.

This was hands-down the most awful place I've ever had the misfortune of staying in. The service workers were surly, belligerent, and unhelpful and the rooms were cramped and dark. You couldn't pay me to stay there again.

Thank you for taking your time to write a review of our gaslamp district hotel. We are very sorry and sincerely apologize for the inappropriate and unacceptable service provided to you. We have reviewed your comments with our service staff and at same time provided to them retraining and guidance. We have rooms with various angles of sun light and shapes and sizes. We should have accommodated you in a room to your liking. We very much regret the level of hospitality provided to you and hope you will reconsider staying with us.

Like a mid-western bed and breakfast dropped randomly into San Diego. Cramped, dark and lacking customer service. There is a reason that they have a 48 hour cancellation policy- once you see it you will want to leave.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of hour hotel. We are a boutique hotel with a strong Victorian Theme. We are truly sorry to learn you did not feel welcome. The photos you had taken, the first is of a view from elevator on an upper floor. The second photo is of one of our guest room bathrooms. Many of our guests are struck by the non-cookie cutter style we embrace with every room updated in the last 2 years.

This hotel service wise was terrible. One attendant out front parking cars who by the way did not help with the bags. I ended up getting the cart and taking my own luggage to the room. Parking in the Gaslamp District is terrible but this hotel does not deal with it in a professional manner. If you don't pay for overnight parking you're pretty much on your own even as a guest of the hotel. The rooms are dark and dreary. Needs to be revamped!! Glad to gather our things up the next morning and leave!!

Room Tip: The rooms were dreary and dark so no tips
