“Excellent! I loved it”
Reviewed January 5, 2006

Stayed here for 3 nights for Christmas 2005.

Pros:
1) Very quick check-in. Requested for a high floor, 2 double beds, and facing the marina, and got it!

2) Very plush, clean, comfortable beds with 4 pillows (on each double bed)

3) Great views from the balcony

4) 5 free internet access/computers in the lobby: very nice modern setup with flat screen Sony monitors, free printing; also a lounge area with flat screen TV.

5) Large swimming pool, usually almost empty each day we swam; nice adjacent hot tub.

6) Convenience store at the lobby was great and essential

7) Laundry facilities!! very nice surprise; washer and dryers definitely helped during the trip

8) Lobby was nicely decorated with grand christmas tree + aquarium

9) For a hotel located right next to the airport, we didn't hear any planes at all! (except for loud next door neighbors)

10) Never pay anything above $99 for this hotel. It is priced right at $99/night.

Neutral:
1) Had the christmas buffet dinner, and it was definitely bland. Alcoholic drinks were weak. Should have gone to a restaurant in the Gaslamp District for much less than the $122 we were charged at the hotel.

Cons:
1) Gym/health spa was closed & under renovation. Website was not updated until my day of arrival, so I could not fully complain.

2) Parking is a mess at times; no free spots, so you circle around and around and wait and wait

3) Thin walls- loud people in the rooms next door can bother you

4) Small bathrooms

5) No wireless internet; pay for ethernet access

Stayed in the west wing just before new years. A definite mixed bag. First, keep in mind that this property is really 2 different hotels about a quarter mile apart. The east wing is the larger hotel and the closest to the airport, and also the one with the most amenities. Very much a large convention property. The west wing (which the bellboy said used to be a Westin) is undergoing extensive renovation, or was when we were there. This was a problem for just about everybody -- guests, workers and hotel staff. At one point only one elevator was working, and much of the property was off-limits. To their credit, the hotel staff seemed to keep a positive and sympathetic attitude. Some guests seemed pretty put out. We actually didn't have a problem and since we were paying a discounted priceline rate, some of the irritants were easy to overlook. In fact, once the renovations are complete, this may be a better spot than the larger east wing. We loved our room with a great view of the bay and downtown San Diego. Cruise ships, yachts, fishing boats, kayakers...they all swept right by our balcony. Lots of joggers and walkers on the path by the bay too. The room was freshly remodeled... brand new, really...but not especially luxurious. Odd things were missing too -- like a lamp by the seating area (you couldn't read there at night) and the only mirror was in the bathroom. Pretty slim for a 4-star property. More like a 3-star. Anyway, the Sheraton west wing has a good location, and at this point that's about the best thing going for it. Get a room from a discounter and enjoy the view.

I stayed at the West Tower for 6 nights last week and had 5 different rooms due to the renovations. I spent the week sharing the evevators with hotel staff and hoping it would stop on my floor. I was very disappointed with my stay. The West tower also only has 1 restaurant. I would definately not recommend the hotel here in the near future and avoid a room by the elevator at all costs as you will be stuck listening to them day and night.

stayed nov 20-23 for a conferance, great bed, standard hotel ameneties. What bugged me about this room is there is no mini fridge and no in room safe. These i consider critical for a business hotel, and just what i would expect for this level of hotel. besides these issues an uneventful hotel eitherway. Also this hotel is within walking distance of the airport terminal,(no kidding).

My wife, our 2 1/2 year old and myself stayed here back in late August for a late summer mini-vacation. Since we arrived on a Sunday night for a Mon-Tues stay, there were few 'tourists'. We basically shared the hotel with 850 members of a conference being held at the hotel while we were there.

Based on reviews on 'Trip Advisor', we selected this hotel as part of our AAA packaged vacation (it included Sea World admission). We requested a East Tower (Main Tower) room with a view of the marina (see photos). Since we were there over a work week, we basically had the breakfast buffet to ourselves and all of the conference members had come and gone by the time we came downstairs.

Close to Sea World, Zoo, Downtown and across the street from the airport. Location is great and sure beats the 'Hotel Circle' area (noisy freeway traffic at all hours). And a much better view!

We were met by a nice, helpful staff and will enjoy a return visit to the hotel in the future.

By the way, if you have kids, they'll love the huge fish tank in the lobby.

I recently completed a stay at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel And Marina. This hotel is current undergoing extensive renovations. During our stay, there was loud pounding and jack hammering from 8:45 AM to 6 PM on a Friday and Saturday. The hallways also smelled like carpet glue and the elevators were used for construction. This construction is very disrupting to a guest expecting a relaxing weekend at a four star hotel.

The hotel does not disclose the construction on their website and only informs guests about the renovations at check-in. I would not stay at this hotel again, while it is under construction.

I stayed her on business for 5 days. I was skeptical based on the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised after I checked in. I loved the room. I stayed in the tower side with a view of the city. Every room has a balcony, which you can’t beat! The Room was spacious and the bedding was so comfortable. I enjoyed by post conference breaks on the terrace watching the people come and go. It was about a $13-15 cab ride to the gas lamp district. The bathroom was average, but I must mention the fabulous hair dryer! Top notch Con-air. The lobby was great and has free wireless internet. Very comfy couches and a great bar Quinns. It is a great place to do business. Being near the airport was not a problem. All and all a great trip and a better stay.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
San Diego has established itself as a destination featuring world class spirit with genuine warmth. The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina offers an authentic San Diego experience. Iconic sunsets and a waterfront destination…it’s comfortably upscale without pretense. As an architectural cornerstone positioned at the point of entry into the city - by air or sea - the imposing facade of the hotel reflects an architectural design inspired by the region’s naval influence. In the mid 1800s, city leaders realized the potential of the San Diego Bay and, with the anticipation of the opening of the Panama Canal, the importance of improving the harbor for commerce. Significant modifications were needed to the Bay to accommodate large ships. As a result, Harbor and Shelter Island were developed, as well as much of the land beneath the San Diego International airport. Today’s San Diego has evolved into a place to meet and share inspiration. Overlooking the scenic San Diego Bay and a private marina, the hotel is a place where San Diego soul and contemporary style go hand and hand. A Bayside resort with urban accessibility, the hotel is a waterfront hub connecting you to the destination’s renowned attractions. Ideally located within easy reach, the historic Liberty Station, the waterfront districts of Point Loma, the energy of Little Italy and the Gaslamp Quarter offer convenient, lively dining and entertainment venues. Amongst exquisite lifestyle decor and a relaxing atmosphere, the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina reflects a perfect haven for the active lifestyle that is woven deep into the region’s DNA. There are waterside fire pits and three pools - each with a unique personality. But most importantly, the hotel is designed to make best use of San Diego’s average 72 degree year-round sunny weather. Sitting on the dock of the Bay, the hotel offers access to water sport rentals and sailing tours to provide an extraordinary perspective of San Diego. Along with the diversity that found home in San Diego, the intense energy that the destination acquired offers a remarkably unique experience. Naturally, this energy worked its way into the foundation of the hotel. From the moment of arrival, the hotel is designed to offer a scenic environment with unmatched flexibility and capability. The nautically inspired guest rooms and suites come with an elegant array of amenities and social enabling conveniences. Social travelers seeking something astonishing can choose one of the spacious and well equipped suites for a unique and luxurious home away from home. Reflecting the needs of the world’s social traveler, a great hotel is built with much more than awe-inspiring design. The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina enlists a warm, friendly and tenured staff that is connected to the urban energy of downtown San Diego. ... more   less
