Front desk staff was top quality. Common areas nicely done. Seemed to always wait for an elevator. Probably situational above any other cause. Room was nice. Stayed in a front (road facing) room. Road noise was always there, but tollerable. This hotel delivers what it says it will deliver; comfortable stay in San Diego for an average price. Nice.

This hotel was picked for us by our travel agent, and at first we were a bit disappointed. Its basically a business hotel on a road with many other hotels and businesses catering for those who aren't in town for long. It has very easy access to the I-8 so is good for getting to other parts of San Diego quickly - but otherwise is nothing special. We did get wifi thrown in (usually $10 a night) - I think the girl on reception took pity on us as we had just driven in from the airport and, as it was our first drive on US roads, it had terrified us! - so that was a bonus. But otherwise, don' expect anything fancy. Rooms were OK, clean, reasonable size - and the staff responded quickly to my request for a hairdryer (which should have already been in the room) but otherwise, just another chain hotel.

Done well
- good food at the restaurant
- good free wifi although the SPG website states for a FEE
- upgraded room to some degree to an acceptable level
- Big hotel
- kind of close to downtown and attraction if you don't want to live right in downtown

Do Better
- poorly maintain swimming pool and hot tub (too much leaves and bushes, insect) that will prevent you to jump in
- Parking is not free which I don't understand, there is nothing really around it, normally, downtown area hotel would charge.
- POOR attention despite the front desk acknowledged few things I have reported which are
a) water tank leaking which was causing every 30 secs tank refill - noise to prevent you sleeping
b) Fridge door could not be closed which means the drink would not the cold
c) window did not close properly which might prevent you to sleep if there was noise.
FRONT DESK are not consistent, one shown interested in your concern, the other at another time, has no reaction after you reported your concern.

Room Tip: - if you like to swimming, this is not a hotel can offer you, see my experience above - WIFI is fre...

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in June 2014. Great location as we visited the Zoo & Seaworld. Great shopping and restaurants within 5 mins of the hotel. Staff very welcoming and friendly. If you get the option ask to stay on the highway side of the property for a better view

From the outside, it looks old. Location is not bad...close to highway so you can hear some highway noise, but it is convenient and also close to shopping and restaurants.

The rooms were decent. Bathrooms were VERY small, but not a big deal when traveling on business. I think if we had the kids with us, it would have been worse.

Elevators and our floor had a really strong air freshener smell, almost like they were trying to hide something. Overall quality of the room was decent.

My biggest issue is parking. They will automatically try to charge you for parking. The lady checking us in immediately said she was charging me $16 for parking. She didn't even ask if I has a car?? We happen to, but the fact that she just assumed and wanted to charge me made me wonder why. So, I let her know I would get back to her on that. We went out for dinner and upon returning, I found you could park in the street for free..now I knew why she wanted to charge me so quickly. I asked a different person at the front desk if parking in the street was ok and he said it was perfectly fine, safe, and lots of guests do it.

Overall, it was a decent hotel, but next time I plan to stay somewhere else. The lady at the front desk turned me off about the parking...not that $16 was a huge deal, but in just the way she approached it. Also, the hotel felt very dated/old. We needed to attend a meeting at the doubletree hilton on Hazard (about 5 mins) away and that place appeared much newer, closer to the shopping and restaurants, plus you could jump on the mta in front of the hotel.

OCHow,

Thank you for writing a review of our hotel. We are very sorry we miscommunicated with you during check in. We do have a new staff on board and we are just now getting them up to speed when it comes to our check in process. It is protocol to ask if a guest has a vehicle with them and we will make sure this is taken care of and that our front desk is following our procedures. We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again so we can show you amazing customer service.

Cheers,

The hotel is fantastic; my room was more than adequate.A safe and fridge provided. The staff were very helpful also - which is typical of the high standard of Customer service I found in California after staying in 6 locations.

Lovely large swimming pool.

Why just the 3 stars then? Well as a previous writer stated, you really need a car as little is within walking distance. I did have a car but really didnt want to drive into the city. The hotel has replied that there is a trolley service but it is not particularly convenient and doesn't run much outside 'working' hours'. It wasn't exactly 'plugged' by the staff so maybe more information wouldn't go amissThe taxi service they offer is good, but my fares certainly 'varied in price' on similar trips.

If you are a light sleeper you will need a pool facing room to avoid the roaring traffic in north facing rooms.

The food was average in quality and value so eat out in San diego as the cafes and restaurants are varied and very good.

Room Tip: Light sleepers need a pool facing room

Dear Bitter49

On behalf of all of us here at the Sheraton Mission Valley, we are very glad to see you took the time to write a review of our hotel. We strive real hard to make sure our guests have been WOW'd before they leave. We do apologize for not making our transportation information very clear to you and that is definitely frustrating for a guest who doesn't want to travel too much as gas is not very cheap anymore and if you aren't from the area, it can be difficult to navigate. We do hope to see you again in the future and we will make sure your transportation needs are met!

Sincerely,
