Sometimes you look on the hotel website and think yer yer when we get there we won't be in a room looking like that! How wrong were we!!! I would gladly live in a flat of that size. Spacious, well equipped with quality decoration throughout. Now to the welcome... After an 11 hour flight and the slowest entry into the USA I have ever experienced we were so glad to reach the hotel. The desk staff could not have done more to welcome us and within 20 mins we were down in the bar with a cold beer, even the locals welcomed us. Next the location... We wanted to be near the hillcrest area for the night life. It was perfect with just a short walk. Being near the park was lovely as we walked to the zoo and it was still only a short journey into the centre. My only comment would be about the breakfast which was not quite as high a standard. The space was limited and the food was ok to get the day started. In conclusion though we would stay here again without a second thought.

We have stayed twice before at this hotel (when it was the Park Manor), but not since the recent decor renovations, which are very well done! When you enter the lobby, and then take the hallway to your room, you can tell this is an older, boutique hotel, but when you swipe your card key at the door and enter your room, WOW! the "rooms" really are all multi-room suites! Spacious sitting room (even larger than our living room at home, and we have a 2000 square foot house), large, modern flat screen television, internet access, of course; cute kitchen with a range, refrigerator-freezer, microwave, sink with garbage disposal, and a small breakfast nook with table and chairs. The bedroom was HUGE (again, larger than our guest bedrooms at home), and the bathroom, though small, was absolutely gorgeous with glass and marble throughout. Same with the kitchen, and the rest of the suite. All very nicely appointed. The bed and all suite furnishings were very handsome and comfortable. The entire suite was spotless. In our advance reservations, we requested a south-facing room with a balcony (balconies are unusual, most rooms at The Inn don't have them), which was a very private and comfortable space to kick back with a glass of wine and enjoy the city view. Our only disappointment was that we were there for only one night, and didn't know anybody in town to invite over to the suite to show it off! It makes you feel like a millionaire, and all for a very reasonable price for what you get. The service at both the front desk and concierge desk in the lobby is very friendly and efficient, and the optional valet parking is only $15 per night.

Of course, since we stayed there on a Friday, we had to go upstairs to the rooftop "Top of the Park" for their Friday Afternoon Happy Hour, a venerable old tradition with the San Diego LGBT community, and afterward went downstairs for dinner... great cuisine, service, and entertainment by Janice Edwards with piano accompaniment by Nathan Fry. We enjoyed Nathan and Andy Anderson on an RSVP cruise in Hawaii several years ago, so was happy to have him as part of the dinner entertainment that night.

As other reviewers have noted, the hotel is adjacent to Balboa Park (the San Diego Zoo) and the Hillcrest district, with the upper rooms and Top of the Park having great views of Coronado, the bay, Point Loma and downtown San Diego. Give the Inn a try next time you are in San Diego, you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: Request a balcony room and an upper floor at least several months in advance!

While looking a bit old and worn when stepping into the registration lobby, those impressions quickly disappear upon entering your guest room. The rooms are uniquely styled in a type of modern chic while retaining an antique flavor. They are well appointed and inviting. This is a convenient location for access to all of San Diego, including a simple walk across the street to enter Balboa Park. Interesting shops and restaurants are nearby, as well. Looking for cozy and convenient? Check in.

Room Tip: Views are better in the upper floor rooms.

Inn at the Park is a charming hotel in a great location in San Diego. It is across the street from Balboa Park where there is lots to do (San Diego Zoo is there as well) and within walking distance of many good restaurants in Hillcrest. (It is also within walking distance of our son's condo which got me to stay here in the first place.) While we were there on this occasion, they had jazz on the rooftop level with hors d'oevres and a cash bar, which we enjoyed while sitting out on the patio looking out over the bay and city. Beautiful! We also ate in the restaurant/piano bar downstairs in the hotel. The food was good and entertainment was also.
I like the rooms as well. The beds are comfy and they have renovated them very nicely. We were on the 6th floor this time with a view towards the north and it was very nice. Lots of light in the rooms as well due to the size of the windows. There is also a very nicely renovated kitchen in the units with dining area.

My only concern is that Wyndham has bought up Shell Vacation who owns Inn at the Park. Although Wyndham tends to update and fix-up places, hopefully they will not take away the charm of this historic hotel. Hopefully, it's on some historical register or something.

By the way, when you walk in the front doors to registration, look up.......very cool ceiling!

Room Tip: If you stay on the 6th floor, and they are hosting an event on the 7th (rooftop). You will definite...

Thank you for your wonderful assessment of your recent stay. I am happy to read that you were able to experience the jazz event that is held on the 3rd Thursday of every month located on our 7th floor. I am also pleased to read that our renovations met your expectations. The ceiling that you speak of, was originally painted in 1926 and is a grand charm of our lobby. We look forward to your return visit to Inn at the Park.

The Inn at the Park is an older facility with a contemporary decor and well maintained. It is located within easy striking distance of Balboa Park's theaters and museums, by foot for the fit, by taxi for the rest of us. There are two on-site restaurants, the Top of the Park for breakfast and lunch and the Inn at the Park for dinner. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable.

We stayed here for one night as we were attending a wedding that took place on the roof top balcony. It is a very nice, small hotel and it's been updated beautifully. It's definitely not the typical "cookie cutter" look in the rooms and it was really refreshing to stay somewhere more modern and fun. The kitchen was really nice although we didn't have a chance to use it. We found parking on the street, so I would definitely suggest doing that as the hotel parking lot is right behind the hotel and not any safer than parking on the street, although this area is pretty safe anyway.

Every employee we encountered was very helpful and nice - from the front desk staff to the wedding staff to the morning breakfast servers. They had a simple, free breakfast or you could pay for larger items off the menu. I ordered an egg benedict breakfast and it was really good. It cost around $9, but you could get a combo breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast, potatoes) for about $6 which I thought was a great option if you wanted more than the free bagels and muffins.

We had a corner room (that didn't overlook the park) which was somewhat noisy. It's an older building and I understand it won't be quite as quiet as a newer hotel and you could definitely hear the street noise. But it didn't really seem to bother any of us while we slept. There is also a 7-11 kitty corner from the hotel which was nice to have close by - in case you needed snacks or whatever and didn't have a car.
