“Impromptu stay w/wonderful service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2013

We found out that the place we were planning on staying was full, so they recommended Inn at the Park. We got there mid-afternoon, and Rob gave us a beautiful suite on the top floor (with a beautiful view), had a living room, dining/kitchen area, and bedroom. The breakfast was a very nice continental one, altho guests could order a hot meal. The historic decor was beautiful! And we loved being close to Balboa Park. Nice place to stay!

Tami, I am pleased to hear that your first visit to Inn at the Park was a memorable one. I thank you for recognizing Rob, as the guest service team will be delighted to hear of yet another success. As you noticed, we pride ourselves in offering the same genuine service to both spur of the moment walk ins, as well as long standing reservations. The restaurant you enjoyed is a favorite among locals and guests, as the sunrise views or nightly entertainment offered only grow in popularity. We look forward to serving you in the near future and thank you again for your feed back.

We stayed at this hotel many times before - mainly for the location and large rooms. We were very pleasantly surprised when we stayed there again for one night in Jan 2013 prior to picking up a cruise. The rooms have been redone - same wonderful mattress on the beds thank goodness! - so comfortable! Bathrooms all redone with a nice walk in shower with glass doors. A nice touch was a shade over the front room's 2 windows that had a scene of ancient cars on it. A touch of a button raised the shade to reveal the windows - very nice! New furniture and appointments. We had the studio which is very large and comfortable.

Room Tip: If there are only 2 of you, the studio rooms are more than adequate - very large and roomy.

This beaurtifully renovated grand hotel was just what we were hoping for. We loved the decor. Our room was quite spacious for our family of 4--perfect for us to kick back and relax after a long day of sightseeing, The kitchenette was a big help, especially for that 1st cup of coffe, an early bowl of cereal for the boy, or for a late night snack. The beds were so comfy, with plenty of blankets, comforters and pillows.. and we had a nice view from our huge window with its automated rollup blind, of which we gave the job of raising and lowering to my 8 year old. Our room had everything we needed in amenities, which even included a salon quality hair dryer.

This hotel is conveniently located across from Balboa Park. Most everything we wanted to do and see was only a 5-10 minute drive away. Because of this central location, you will hear traffic noises outside, but by bedtime, it is rather quiet out there. . Although, you're going to hear planes coming and going, no matter where you stay closer to town.. This certainly does not take away from the beauty of San Diego or the more than adequate accomodations at this hotel.

Saving the best for last...the continental breakfast upstairs on the 7th floor--was plentious and even elegant with its table linens and a beautiful view of San Diego in the morning. What a way to start the day!

Room Tip: Any room facing the harbor or the Park.

Thank you for sharing your experience at Inn at the Park. Your ‘4 Word’ impression of our service is what we believe makes Inn at the Park a memorable experience. Every day we unify our efforts to leave the guest with an impression that is unique as it is memorable. On your next visit, the breakfast you enjoyed ‘…starting the day with,’ will be included for your family as well as any guests. Should you seek dining options, however, I trust our own 525 at Inn at the Park would start your evening off with equal success. We look forward to serving you and your family again.

Our room was in the fifth floor. It was beautiful. Lots of space. Very modern and updated. Definitely feels like a boutique hotel. It has no fitness room but it is Right beside Balboa park. So I jogged everyday along with birds, squirrels, rabbits, etc. just before the free continental breakfast. The valet service is convenient and the staff all seem very nice and helpful. The only thing I did not like is that the floor creaked more loudly than normal. Every move you make makes a lot of noise. I had a two year old so whoever was below me must have been going nuts!

Fearless Ninja, I thank you for your feedback. Inn at the Park’s proximity to Balboa Park has always been a favored feature among the health conscious, families and couples alike. Our location is not only central to Hillcrest and San Diego, but views of the Bay and Balboa Park give nature a picture worthy presence in the city. Again, your feedback is appreciated, as we hope to serve you and your child again soon.

Friends in San Diego recommended Inn at the Park to my wife and I for our week long stay. Locals know this place as a wonderful hotel and great location for visitors. As a veteran of the hospitality industry, I'm not easily impressed. However, the staff at this hotel is exceptional, from the valet service (which is convenient and reasonably priced), the helpful and friendly front desk personnel, the concierge, absolutely everyone we encountered made every effort possible to make our stay an enjoyable one. The suite was spacious and the decour was very well done and comfortable. The cozy kitchen was fully equiped and the dining table perfect for two. The large tiled bathroom had a walkin shower with a window that could be opened. A large mirror along the wall with the pedestal sink. The walkin closet was also large with plenty of storage. We enjoyed several dinners in their restaurant, which had nightly entertainment at the piano bar. The food was also excellent at a fair price and the service very good. We enjoyed walks to Balboa Park and the museums. The proximity to the Hillcrest section of San Diego with its fine assortment of restaurants is another plus. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be staying here on our next visit.

My husband and I would highly recommend this hotel not only for its location, but also for the experience of the suite. We loved the decor of the room we had on the 6th floor. It was done up in a very classy manner, but yet all the furnishings and the bed were very comfortable. We had a great overall view of the city, water, and park. I loved that we could open the window to let in fresh air. The little kitchen area had everything you would need to cook a meal if you so desired. The large walk in closet was so nice to have to keep everything out of site also.

We also loved the beautiful setting on the top floor where you could sit inside or out and enjoy great views all around as you eat a great complimentary breakfast. Again the decor and the white linen table cloths made you feel like it was special.

Eric and Rob at the front desk were extremely nice and helpful in responding to any questions we had about the area and where to go also. Having the park across the street was a real benefit also as you are very close to the zoo and museums. As you can tell we loved the whole experience and would definitely return here.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have a better view.

Thank you for visiting Inn at the Park. The Guest Service team is always excited to be a memorable part of a guest’s experience, so we thank you for recognizing our efforts. I am pleased to hear the indoor amenities have made a positive impression throughout your stay. The boutique ambiance of a historical building with newly renovated amenities did not come without its challenges. However, with a careful attention to detail and guest needs, the Inn at the Park experience was created. We thank you for choosing with us for your stay in San Diego and look forward to serving you again.

We originally booked another hotel (Britt Scripps Inn) that appeared to be under renovation when we arrived (though we've not been informed on that...). Paper on its closed door referred to Inn at the Park as the closest one to check and so we did. First impression was very positive as that place was nice looking from the street and located several steps from Balboa park. The guy at the Reception (Daniel) welcomed us and tried to help when we told him our story. There was no connection between Britt Scripps and Inn at the Park, but still Daniel did all he could to help us to clarify the situation. When we understood nothing could be done we took a room and were very pleased to know its price (it was very nice from the hotel to charge us the same price as in the internet, not higher rate which usually hotels try to charge you when you come "from the street"). It was a standard room, but its size is really big. It has walk-in shower, marble bathroom, small dinning area and nice kitchen. Also it has a separate closed area for bags and clothes, so I would never expect such a room (more like a small appartment) from 3 stars hotel... Continental breakfast that was served at the top-floor restaurant was really nice (especially fresh pineapple and melon) and you can also order specials (eggs etc.) for a good price. We've also tried restaurant in the bottom of the hotel and found it excellent: both for quality of service and food. The only thing that we did not like a smell of wet and old furniture in the corridor, but since its an old building that's been just renovated it may be settled later. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and our only advise would be to book (or get) higher possible floor with street view (not to the hotel's parking).

Room Tip: Take higher floor and ask for street view (if possible) not to the hotel's parking.
