“Nice place, great breakfast!”
Reviewed July 14, 2007

The hotel has a pretty exterior and the inside is also nice, very comfortable, with standard motel-type rooms. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is parking available right outside the rooms. The breakfast was lovely, with all the usual continental breakfast options as well as waffle-making facilities! The price was reasonable too.

I found this hotel in a AAA magazine, check the reviews here and recommended it to my inlaws for a week long stay of thiers. We originally were only going to join them for one night but last minute we were able to make it two. My mother inlaw made the reservations directly with the property. We realized we could make it a night earlier so we called the day before the night we wanted to now arrive. It was a Friday or Saturday night so we crossed our fingers hoping they had availability...and they did, just barely. It was a good thing we called when we did. We arrived before the parents and checked in at the same time 2 seperate people came in asking for any room, they were completely booked!
The rooms are very plain and a little old but clean. The first room we were in the first night was a little noisy from the street traffic but then the pouring rain came and drowned out the noise (no pun intended). Our second night's room just below the other was a little smaller (one bed vs. two) and surprisingly a little quieter. My husband's parents room was a deluxe with a fridge, microwave little table and more. It seemed almost smaller than our rooms but it had more in it and only one bed. THey loved it! Thier room was off the street, quiet and close to the pool. Their pool is very nice, heated and a pleasant place to relax after a busy day out and about. The breakfast included was fantastic, probably the best thing about the place. It is a buffet and has (drumroll please)......a waffle making station! Make your own waffles, all you can eat. They put out the batter and you cook 'em. There is also your standard fruit, muffins, bagels, dry cereal, OJ and tea and coffee and hot cocoa are available 24hours in the breakfast room.
We never went to Old Town when we were there but it is very easy to get to from what I understand. Balboa park was a short drive away.

Wow...decided to try this hotel after reading the TripAdvisor reviews and it was wonderful. The staff here are probably the friendliest of any hotel I have ever visited! They provided lots of ideas for restaurants and directions to area attractions. The continental breakfast was very nice. In an ideal world, I would have added yogert and peanut butter (it was a little low on protein aside from hard boiled eggs and cream cheese for bagels), but the waffle irons we fast and so they were usually available and when things ran low, they were quickly replenished. The room was very clean. Nothing fabulous, but I couldn't find anything to complain about. The rates were very good given the cost of other hotels in the San Diego area. This hotel is fairly close to Sea World, the zoo, the San Diego airport and very close to Old Town. The pool area was nice. I guess if I had to find something that was a bit of a problem, it would be parking. If you drive a compact, you will be fine, but larger vehicles (we had a minivan) were somewhat hard to maneuver in the parking lot. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone!

  • Liked — Good value for San Diego, WONDERFUL STAFF!!!
  • Disliked — Parking lot was a bit tight

Our positive experience started when we called the hotel to book our stay. The person who answered the phone was so pleasant and helpful. Not being from the area we had lots of questions and they answered everyone of them. We read of all the reviews but were still a little hesitant due to the low price but we were not dissappointed. Rooms are comfortable. My sister loved the efficiency and so did we (used her microwave and fridge). Pool area was great, loved the breakfast, waffles are delicious. I can't say enough about the front desk staff. They went out of their way to give us directions, suggestions for restaurants, and even made a phone call for us to find out local church service times. My only complaint would have to be the maids, they don't speak English so our room was not cleaned a few days because of confusions due to the language barrier. People complain about the noise but we just kept the fan on in our room and you couldn't hear a thing.

We stayed at the Old Town Inn for a week in June. It is an excellent hotel.

Great location :

- Walking distance from Old Town (Good restaurants and shops)
- Close to all main attractions (SeaWorld, Zoo, Beaches, ...) and downtown San Diego.
- Even if the hotel is near the highway, we did not hear a noise.

Great price and service :

- Around 100 $ (AAA price) for a large room with 2 queen beds (wich are very very comfortable) and a kitchnette.
- Good breakfast included (waffles, bagels, cereals, ...)
- The service was excellent and very friendly.

If the Old Town Inn would just upgrade their amenities like the soap bars and shampoo and add some shower caps, it would be comparable to a Hampton Inn wich is more expensive.

We had an excellent stay and would definitively stay there again.

  • Liked — Location, location, location!
  • Disliked — Soap brand... Bring your own shampoo and don't forget your shower cap and mosturizer !
