This is a place to stay if you want to be close to the boardwalk, the action, the beach and the college students. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is low key. We were kept awake for most of the first night by the homeless people who live right in front of the hotel on the boardwalk, so there is lots of color.

This is NOT the place to stay if you want luxury, a big room and some peace and quiet. The pool is not that great and the complimentary breakfast is poor.

My husband and I decided to take a little romantic weekend getaway after having just gotten married and having moved into our new place. We needed to have a few stress-free days, and this hotel did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly and eager to help in any way possible. It was definitely a bonus that by booking online, they gave us a $50 gift card for the Firehouse which is the cool contemporary restaurant/lounge right next door. Although it was a bit chilly that night, the rooftop deck's heat lamps and firepits kept us warm while we ate dinner and sipped on wine. As for the hotel room, it was clean, comfortable, and had an awesome view of the ocean and boardwalk from our little, round private balcony. The hotel's location is its best selling point--Pacific Beach, near shopping, restaurants, bars, drugstores. Other pluses: free internet connection, free continental breakfast, mini-fridge, nice pool area, relaxing atmosphere as you can hear ocean waves crashing nearby. Negatives: cleaner agent smell in part of hallway, some rooms may be loud if near restaurant side, slow elevator. Overall: great value hotel for location and service.

TIPS:
1. Ask for a quiet room on the second floor with balcony overlooking boardwalk.
2. Make a reservation at the Firehouse for dining/cocktails--rooftop deck is a must.
3. Also make it a point to visit Mission Beach which is the more lively side of the beach areas and has more activities like surf lessons and amusement rides--just a busride or short cabride away.

This hotel was absolutely amazing! We stayed here for 6 nights and every one of them was great. The view from the room is the best part and leaving the balcony door open to hear the ocean waves at night was even better. It was so convenient to be able to just walk out of our hotel and be right on the beach. It was also nice to be able to sit outside on our balcony. Although the balcony and room was small, the view definitely made up for it. We didn't need anything more than what we had. Our room had a nice size bathroom and a refrigerator and microwave. The breakfast was great every morning and the hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The area is definitely geared towards the younger crowd and has some great restaurants and bars. There are numerous places to eat and drink steps away from the hotel so you shouldn't have any problem finding a place to go! Also, there is a grocery store right across the street. Pacific Beach is a good location if you are planning on visiting Sea World, The Zoo, La Jolla, and many other places because each is only a short drive away. The area also seemed to be fairly safe and the rooms even safer. If you're going to stay in San Diego, this is the place to be!

We were celebrating our anniversary and wanted to hear the sounds of the ocean. Hubby likes to research all aspects and chose this one. It would not have been my first choice.
Yes, it is definitely ocean front and you can hear the waves at night but I wasn't too keen on the area.
It is where all the college kids hang out. Not very romantic.
It was a bit pricey even at this time of year. There were several bars but not many good restaurants.
If you like this atmosphere, then this is the place for you.

The reviews I read scared us a little before, but to stay at this hotel was the best choice of our holiday! We asked for a silent room after having read the reviews and our room really was very silent. The staff was very very friendly and helpful. Location is great and the pool and hot tub provide a nice place to stay during the day. There are numerous (low budget, but nice) restaurants around. I can imagine the Firehouse bar next door can get loud for the rooms on the south/east side, but we did not hear a thing. We really recommend this place! It was well worth staying here.

We stayed at the Ocean Park inn this last week (Oct. 20th)
and I was skeptical after reading some reviews.
We were pleasantly suprised by the AMAZING location. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a little dated, but had a long counter for all of our "bathroom stuff" We had a fabulous view of the ocean, and our room was nice and quiet at night.
The staff was very pleasant and helpful, and aimed to please.
There was alot of restaurants, sportsbars and shops within walking distance.
All in all, I would definately reccommend this hotel.

Overall, a great reasonable place to stay right on the beach. I stayed 2 nights for business in early October, which is off season, and only paid $119/night for a "King Balcony view" room (Sun/Mon). I stayed in room #312 – after reading the reviews here about the noise nearby (yes there are plenty of college kids yelling in numerous restaurant/bars that surround the hotel) I asked for a quiet room, and I had no problems with noise. I found the room to be clean and comfortable. Extra bonuses were the in-room safe, and refrigerator you didn’t have to ask for or pay extra for. My “partial” ocean view was incredible – I kept being drawn out onto the balcony to watch the waves crashing. With the door open I could hear the waves crashing all the way in the bathroom which was cool. I found the front desk staff to be attentive and knowledgeable. I especially liked Patrick, a true laid-back California dude – who covered everything from internet access to where to eat. He even arranged transport back to the airport with their local car service – not a cab which he said is more expensive – and I was picked up on time in a black Lincoln Town Car with a sharply dressed driver. Nice!
