“Better than average, but noisy!”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

I struggled with this review more than I typically do. The pro's are the fabulous staff - everyone was wonderful and helpful. I even loved every interaction with the woman who cleaned our room. The view is beautiful. The pool looks lovely. There was just something consistently "off" for me the whole stay. Part of it was the other hotel guests. Being directly next to the convention center was super convenient because my husband was there for work. That also meant though that there were convention-goers everywhere. And they were mostly middle-aged men. And I don't think they get out on their own much. Everyone was a little too ready to party. We were on the 9th floor overlooking the pool/harbor... which also meant the tequila bar. There were some incredibly loud, partying women down there hollering expletives, etc. until 3 am one night. Well, it probably went past 3 am, but we turned the fan up on high to drown them out at that point. We also witnessed young men in the north tower hanging out shirtless and spitting off their balconies. Gross. Those few things certainly colored my view of the property. Hotel staff should have been on top of the people yelling outside at 3 a.m. That is absolutely unacceptable. You can also hear the bells for the train across the street - what felt like every 8 minutes. It was impossible for us to sleep without the fan on all night. We could also hear people walking above us and the hallway doors are loud. Luckily we were on the end of the hall so that didn't bother us too much. The location is perfect. It was an easy walk to the Gaslamp, the harbor walk area was a lot of fun, and we enjoyed the shuttle across the water to the other Marriott. I don't know... I really wanted to like it, and I certainly didn't hate it - but I can't say it was better than average. We were in a suite with a king bed and my husband and I both woke up every morning to sore backs (which is another first for me) - time for new mattresses for sure. I do want to reiterate that we were treated really well by all the staff!

Beautiful facility, friendly/helpful staff; good restaurants. Excellent location near Gaslamp District...Petco Park...Seaport Village. Convenient to trolley system for sightseeing further afield.

Only downside is the cost -- at least the Marriott could offer free in-room wifi and complimentary breakfast! We couldn't afford to stay here for a family vacation.

Room Tip: Bay view rooms nicer but of course pricey. Our city view room was interesting.

The conferences that I attend regularly book Marriott hotels, most of which provide great accommodations. However, I must say that this particular location in San Diego ranks in a notch above the rest. Situated right between the Marina and downtown San Diego, this hotel boasts of a beautiful view of the city and/or Marina, depending on which room you are assigned. We were on the 23rd floor, which had an absolutely stunning view from the balcony (I would recommend requesting floors towards the top of the building). Overall, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

Room Tip: If you can manage a southern facing room then you will have a view of the Marina and city. Otherwise...

Wonderful amenities, picturesque swimming pool and grounds, attentive and friendly staff. The meeting areas and public spaces are casual yet well appointed. High end fixtures for bathrooms. Wi fi in public areas. The harbor walk area and seaport village is just outside the hotel areas.

Spent two nights for business. Conference was in downtown San Diego at the convention center and this hotel was too far away. Hotel offers airport shuttle but your only options for downtown is your car or taxi ($13 each way). Hotel is located on Harbor Island and the property has two large towers separated by a 5 minute walk. Property is located next to the marina and offers awesome views of the bay. Airport noise is remarkably non intrusive. Stayed in the Marina tower. Room was average sized and comfortable but needs updating. The bathroom needs most attention. Clean but dated. Plastic disposable cups in the bathroom are out of place for this resort hotel. Room service was above average quality but also above average price for room service. No free internet access in the room. Check-in was slow for non-SPG (reward program) members. Took 20 minutes to check-in. Usually would not complain but having one front desk agent for regular guests (there was a line of 5 check ins) and two agents for SPG members (serving two guests) was annoying. Public spaces are stylish, comfortable, and plentiful.

The sail like shape of the two towers ensures that no room has anything less than an excellent view. our room had a view that included the coranado bridge through downtown. The hospitality room for our conference was on the 25th floor and was a two story suite that really rocked. the valet parking was awesome with complimentary bottled water and excellent service. the marina bar had great bartenders with good memories and conversation skills. during our stay there was an issuewith the water in the north tower but it appeared that the facilities staff hadled it well and moved guests as necessary but overall handled the major glitch with much aplomb. The pool is excelleny and he poolside bar had excellent service as well. access to the board walk was pretty good. access to the gaslamp district and little italy is all within walking distance and if you look at my restaurant reviews, there is some very good food in those districts.

Room Tip: south tower even number rooms have excellent views as do the north tower odd number rooms giving a p...

Our South Tower room with a harbor view couldn't have been nicer. The beds were fab, and the bathroom roomy and well appointed. The concierge was a lifesaver and fixed a pair of broken sunglasses in minutes. The hotel is very busy with conventioneers, weddings, biz meetings, and the like, but our room was very quiet since the noise stays on the lower level meeting rooms. The marina is private but the boardwalk is terrific for casual walks or serious runners. A triathlon was starting the day we left, but we got to see a bit of it--special treat.

Room Tip: Request the habor view if that is important to you. City view is okay, but harbor view is San Diego...
