“4 star for the price, but nothing special”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

Clean, inviting, and an excellent location on the water. RIGHT on the the water. Any closer and you are in the harbor. Location is EXCELLENT. But this same hotel 20 miles inland would be 3 stars. The location is the 4 star hero here. No special attention or extras. Kudos to the friendliest valet and housekeeping staff in the world. Meant for the convention trade, next door to the convention center.

Business Center is in lobby is nice and offers free boarding passes for flights. Free internet in the "pubic" areas, for a fee in your room.

Marina Kitchen has a great breakfast buffet, not too bad at $25. The thick, sweet bacon and cinnamon buns are almost worth the money alone, but it comes complete with coffee and juice and made-to-order omelets, fruits, baked goods, meats, and specialty items! We also had dinner there late when we arrived (11pm).

The pool area has nice fire pit areas and is awesome, but offers no view as a large restaurant is in front of the pool and blocks the marina. Very "tropical" looking pool area. Nice work out facility. No spa. Go to the Hyatt next door for the spa (the Hyatt, a taller building, has a true 4 star lobby, and a great view at the top of the Hyatt bar - go next door for evening drinks).

The room was ample, clean, and had a great shower. Nice bath products, but not 4 star. The bed was a bit soft for a 4 star room.

Nice balcony overlooking the harbor. Request a room overlooking the harbor in the NORTH TOWER. The South TOWER only has a few balconies. The NORTH TOWER has almost 100% balconies. Ask for one facing the marina. The other view is of the city, nice, but we prefer the marina.

Must dos:

THE ZOO, the USS Midway, La Jolla (if you have a car - go snorkeling with the harbor seals), the harbor cruise, dinner in Little Italy or the Gaslamp district).

THIS is a super city. HAVE a great time!

My opinion, book it at $250 or less and you have a "deal."

Room Tip: Ask for the NORTH TOWER, harbor view, and the balcony is free!

Stayed here for 5 nights while attending a meeting at the Convention Center next door. There is no double this hotel is in a great location - next to the convention center, walking distance to Seaport Village, Gaslamp Quarter and Horton's Plaza. However, there is a train track right in front of the hotel and you could hear the bells and whistles 24/7! I have been woken up more than once at 3am by the noise of the passing train. This is not the hotel's fault, all the other hotels near the convention center suffer from the same problem - it is poor planning on the city's part. I also find the rooms are not very sound proofed - you can hear the telephone conversation next door.

The hotel lobby is nice and large. Check in quick and easy. My room was ready even though I got there early - noon. Room was on third floor north tower with a balcony. Very spacious. 2 queen beds - very comfy. Large work desk with lots of plugs for the business traveller. Have to pay for internet though - $12.95 + tax per 24 hrs, which I thought was pretty expansive considering I was already paying $256/night for the room. There is a mini fridge and a coffee maker in the room. In room safe is available. The shower/tub and toilet area was pretty cramped and the toiletries were scant - no bath gel or cotton balls or Q tips. The closet and carpets and hangers could do with an upgrade. Housekeeping was "ok", not the best - could be cleaner.

Room service was prompt and reasonably priced, although the menu was limited. Large gift shop with lots of choices if you have the munchies - including ice cream, wine, non alcoholic drinks and lots of snacks. The Starbucks in the lobby closes very early - around 11am! It's almost like it's just there to tease you - you see a Starbucks but it's not open!

The workout area is very large and well equipped. Water and fresh fruit in the gym was a nice touch. Beautiful pool and garden.

Staff overall was friendly and helpful.

I think I would stay here again if coming to town for another meeting but if coming for holidays, I would pick something away from the train tracks!

Room Tip: Perhaps if you are on a higher floor, the train noise wouldn't bother you as much.

I stayed at this property for three nights for a convention at the Manchester Hyatt next door. The hotel was at max capacity, but the check in staff was was and allowed our group to check in early. I was given a room on the North Tower side on the eight floor. The room had a balcony and a beautiful view. The room was in very good shape, clean with a bed (although I do hate when hotels use small pillows). I did find some time to visit the pool area and it is very nice with plenty of chairs and shade available. It would have been nice to have had drink service at the pool - if you want a drink you will have to go to the bar/outdoor restaurant in that area. If you get a chance, order the nachos - they are awesome. I did visit the gym and it was very well equiped - I also noticed that they offer some fitness classes, but I didnt have any time to take any. Overall, my stay was very enjoyable.

Stayed for several days for pleasure prior to attending a conference nearby. Check in was great and quick. We had decided to stay for pleasure after booking reservations for the conference and had two reservations. The young lady at the desk was able to work this so we did not have to check out and then check back in.

The room was very clean - we had a high floor room with a view facing the west end of Coronado Island. The beds were very comfortable. TV in good working order. The bathroom/shower was spacious and very clean.

Room service was very good - prompt and priced about what you would expect from a Marriott. The pool was amazing - with poolside bar service. There was a cabana style bar/grill poolside which had some of the best tacos for a great price. The breakfast buffet was about $25/per person with a great selection. There was also a breakfast menu which had generous portions at a decent price. Snack bar and Starbucks inside as is a good sized gift shop.

Overall, a great hotel, with location on the waterfront and close to the convention center and Gaslamp Quarter, but with price would probably look for something less expensive. With a conference rate I paid about $259/night for a double queen city-side view.

This is a wonderful hotel with a great location, wide variety of services and amenities. I would highly reccommend staying here, whether for business or pleasure. My only complaint relates to the parking system, which is a bit confusing and sometimes required a fairly extensive trek through the parking lots.

The location next to the Gaslamp District and Convention Center are ideal. Also its only 2 miles from the airport and rooms with a Bay view have a beautiful view of Coronado Island. The restaurant had very good food. Nice Rooms. It is a huge hotel but very comfortable.

My only complaint would be the Bell Man. When we arrived with 2 big bags none of them bothered to help. Even after registration walking a fairly long distance to the room there was no offer to help.

This is a lovely property with good service, but the price is way over what I usually pay for a hotel room. If you can afford it, this is a great place to stay. I enjoyed walking to the near by shopping village and there were lots of good restaurants in the area.

Room Tip: Our room had a view out over the city and it was quite pleasant.
