“Good stay over Labor Day weekend '07”
Reviewed January 15, 2008

Overdue review, but hopefully of help.
We stayed @ The San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina for 3 nights over Labor Day weekend, and were overall satisfied based on our expectations and previous experiences with the Marriott chain.

Location: Cab ride was about 10 minutes, and location is very nice. Gaslamp district for dining and nightlife is about a 10 minute walk, or $3usd cab ride.
Rooms: We stayed in a King/Resort room on the south tower, which is the newest of the two but in which rooms do not have balconies. Room was spacious enough for 2, and kept clean and replenished with towels/basic ammenities daily.
Food: We had breakfast at the hotel twice and enjoyed some good omelettes and your usual breakfast fare. All served warm and by nice servers.
Activities: The hotel's pool is larger than most @ hotels in the area but because we stayed over a holiday weekend it was very crowded. Nevertheless, it was nice to sit underneath one of the palm trees and enjoy the cool water. Also, the hotel does offer a water taxi (at cost) to Coronado, for a nice day at the beach or bike riding (rentals).

Overall, the hotel was centrally located, rooms and common areas were kept clean, and staff was friendly. We would consider staying here again.

I stayed at the Marriott Marina while attending a convention at the convention center next-door. Loved the hotel. Perfect location for convention-goers as well as quick access to the gaslamp district in the evenings.

The view of the Marina was very nice. The price was a bit high but when the company is paying for a business trip there's no reason to complain.

Stayed here for a conference. This is a big conference hotel. If you aren't here for a conference you probably want to stay somewhere else as this place is large and impersonal. However, as a conference hotel the Marriott was great. Big rooms - get one over-looking the harbor. The food is decent and not too expensive. The location is right on the water so it is very convenient and nice. They handle large groups well. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here with a large group. I would pick somewhere smaller and with more personality if I weren't with a group.

We decided on a San Diego vacation to bring in the new year with the family. I didnt even blink twice at the high rate that was offered because I knew from past experience that Marriotts are great hotels. Unfortunately, now, I will think twice next time..
the "view rooms" requested didnt happen, upon entering our room it was at least 85-90 degrees with the heater full blast...only to find out later that the heat was on full blast because the carpets had just been shampooed and were soaking wet.....causing for wet socks and a VERY slippery bathroom floor....outside noise was rediculous, it was like having the door WIDE open....traffic, trains, planes, you could hear everything, even people talking from the ground floor..and we were on the 14th!......upon making the reservations I asked if there were any new year party's going on, I was told there was, but I didnt expect the "kegger" that insued....there were people all over the hallways, drunk, loud, broken bottles, puke....all nasty..we did not even attend any of the partys at the hotel, we saw all of this as we returned to the hotel and our room.....no lie, it took 40 minutes for an elevator just to get to the 14th floor.....and nobody was concerned even after asking for assistance, we were blown off.....I think that guests staying at the hotel should be priority over the young party goers.....yeah, im bitter.....feel like i was ripped off.........I'll definitely read reviews before booking any hotel in the future.

Great Hotel. The hotel makes you feel like you are home. If you stay and are interested in spa services I would recommend Suki on 4th in the Gas Lamp district. The front desk at the hotel had me go to Suki as they did not have spa services available there is also a spa accross the street I have to believe Suki is by far the best. $89 for a 3 hour facial. Best I have ever had. Also we had a mix up with our room but the hotel made it right. There are wonderful places to eat at the hotel as well. Molly's is a must. Great Hotel!

Went to a business meeting for the weekend at the San Diego Marina Marriott. Good location adjacent to the Convention center.
Next to Seaside Village, nice walk at nite. Also very close to Gastown and Downtown area, although these require a little more of a walk. If you are travelling from LA or Orange County and do not want to drive, the Amtrak station is very close by.

Hotel itself is OK. I was a little disappointed by the noise from the trains that are nearby and I was on the 9th floor. My room looked like it had not been vacuumed or picked up. I had to pick up a few stray coat hangers that were lying on the floor and there a few pieces of sharp black plastic on the dark carpet, fortunately I found them before taking off my shoes. Otherwise the room was nice.

Also had to explain to the hotel staff that there was no ethernet cord in the room, they kept asking me to search the room. Wireless is probably only available in lobby. There is a charge a $10/day charge for internet access and parking is $20 for self-park and $28 for valet.

Food was OK, may have due to what was ordered for the meeting. Healthclub is available 24 hours and looked nice. If you like tennis courts, there are 4 available on site. Had a better dinner at the buffet at the nearby Hyatt. Pool available, but there is no beach access nearby.

Would I stay here again if I was going to a convention next door, probably not, there are many other hotels nearby. Would I recommend staying here for a vacation, I guess so, but there are also other options around San Diego.
