“Good for business or shopping”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

I joined my husband on a business trip in Nov.2012 and I loved this hotel. We had a deluxe room on the 9th floor with a beautiful view of the Coronado Bay Bridge - especially at sunset. The room was nicely appointed, clean, and spacious. There was a good coffee maker in the room and a Starbucks downstairs. I spent a lot of time walking around Seaport Village which is just steps out the back door. They have the BEST Christmas store I have ever seen!! They also have some interesting places to eat with good views that are within walking distance of the hotel.
Horton Plaza is also within a 10 to 15 minute walk and they have a very good selection of stores, including Nordstroms and Macy's and most other chain stores you find in other malls. Taxis are also available at the front of the hotel.
We spent one day at the San Diego Zoo and it was wonderful. It was about a 20 minute drive.
We would stay at this hotel anytime. Well run and professional.

Room Tip: a view of the bridge is nice, especially at sunset

From the moment you pull up you know that you are going to be looked after and well! The foyer is stunning and huge! the staff are courteous and helpful, especially the concierge guys!

This hotel has amazing views and every convenience. The breakfast restaurant offers an enormous range of foods that are very tasty, the setting is beautiful and the staff, very obliging.

They are in the midst of a $billion renovation we were told so be sure to ask for a room that has been recently refurbished as the noise from the ones they are working on is rather loud!

Location wise, if you are looking for action, this isn't for you, you probably should look in the GasLight district, but if you're looking for a hotel that offers everything else, and really it's only a few blocks from things, you won't be disappointed picking this one!

Room Tip: ask for a refurbished room

Dear mdplus4,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us here on TripAdvisor. We are happy to hear that you were impressed with our Grand Lobby. We appreciate your patience during the renovation, and just to advise you we now have floor buffers in between the floors being renovated to relieve any noise from the renovations that are scheduled to be finished in June! We are ahead of schedule and expect to be finished renovating the guestrooms in May.

We are located on the San Diego bay, only minutes walking from the Gaslamp District, which we feel is an ideal distance to get away from the busy late night streets once your ready to retire to your bedroom.

Please come see us again soon! We thank you for sharing your experiences!

Best,
Kristin Helms

Very nice hotel centrally located. My room had great views over the harbour area. I was here attending a Rotary Conference and the rooms were very clean and spacious, and the service was great. Enjoyed my stay very much.

We stayed at the Hyatt over the New Years holidays and found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful.

The rooms are very clean and well maintained especially on the newer renovated club floors.

Room Tip: Pay the extra amount and get a Club suite, but make sure the suite is above the 29th floor and in th...

We spent Christmas in San Diego on the 24th floor with a beautiful view to the south, overlooking Seaport Village nearby and the Coronado Bridge in the distance. Each time we opened the curtains, it was just as breathtaking as the first time. Our stay would not have been possible without a great rate we found on one of the discount web sites. It pays to shop around!
The room has a modern decor with well-selected furnishings. The beds were comfy and the pillows cushy. The large flat screen TV was great and we appreciated the small fridge to store fruits and juices from a nearby super. The only minor complaint was the flat sink in the bathroom- it takes extra time (and water) to rinse anything down. Oh, and there was a slight humming from the elevator shaft behind our room. If you're sensitive to that type of noise, pick a room farther down the hall.
The location is excellent- one block from the convention center, a couple more to the baseball park, a few blocks to the famous Gas Lamp district and its "happening" nightlife and a walk out the hotel's back door to Seaport Village for my morning jogs. There is a well-equipped gym across the large pool area for inclement weather (a rarity in SD, but we experienced some).
The Manchester is one of two towers joined by a massive reception area. At the north end, we found a convenient Starbucks for morning coffee and free internet service.
For the art lover, there are impressive paintings throughout the hotel. For the business-minded, the hotel has huge and smaller meeting rooms. For relaxing, there is a nice bar and reading lounge to the left of the Concierge desk, and for those wanting a drink with a view, go to the bar near the top floor.
We got around paying the ridiculously high parking fee by parking across the street near the condos (be sure to read the street signs carefully),
Our week's stay came to an end all too quickly. It was a most enjoyable experience!

Room Tip: For a view, ask for a room on the south side of Manchester. For less elevator noise, get a room a f...

Save yourself $26 dollars a day for hotel parking. Instead drive just across the rr tracks to the condo and restaurant neighbourhoods. Parking is about $1.25 for an hour with Sundays and holidays free. You pay between 8am-6pm. After that, it's free. Just be aware for street sweeping signs. They are done Mon, Wed, and Fri on one side and Tues and Thursday's on the others, usually starting at 3am.

We have a family with us so we went to Ralph's grocery store nearby to stalk up on breakfast food and beer. Stole some plastic utensils and bowls for cereal from them as well. Only downfall is that there is no microwaves. It was a flat fee of $20 no matter your length of stay.

This hotel is huge in a very good and convenient location, within walking distance to the gas-lamp quarter and restaurants, bars, shops and has great views mostly on one side. We were not on that side so we looked at the other building instead.

The hotel was a bit stuffy and feels more like a plush hospital than a Hotel. So why rate it below excellent? We stayed several days and our bed was not cleaned on one of the days, this is never acceptable to us, it shows the property not being managed properly. We complained about the service, and we received clean towels and an apology, but no service. It is so big is not surprising that some items are not up to the level that should be for a hotel of this category.
We did receive an un-requested credit on our bill for the lack of service, but I rather have gotten the service instead of money. I don't like to go to a Hotel and have to make my own bed like home.

Parking is expensive and the car rental in the lobby also has unusual high rental rates for the area. Pool area is big, not necessarily nice or well kept, but they had plenty of employees around. It is also used for smokers, so a section is off limits if you are not a smoker. We did not use the exercise room, checked it out but it did not look impressive.

The breakfast buffet is very good and has plenty of alternatives or the omelette station with made-to-order items. Price is reasonable for the quality. Do have some drinks on the top bar, these views are incredible, and very popular.
