“Beautiful place but too noisy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

These rooms are beautiful, nice big flat screen TV with HD programming but it's the DING DING DING DING DING I'll remember. There's a trolley stop right next to the hotel and every time a trolley goes by, the crossing arms go down and there is a DING DING DING DING DING for a couple of minutes as people get on and off. Holy cow you'd think they'd put in really thick windows. The trolley runs from 4am to almost midnight, so you don't get much of a break.

A couple other downsides are the expensive parking ($26/day) and the Hyatt charging $10/day for wifi. If I can get free wifi at the Super 8 motel in Blackwell, Oklahoma, I sure as heck should be able to get it at a "grand" Hyatt.

So, if you're rich and either deaf or a really heavy sleeper, this is a great place to stay, with beautiful, clean rooms and gorgeous views. If you like a quiet night's sleep, I'd go somewhere else. If you hate getting whacked for an extra $26 a day for parking, I'd go somewhere else.

Our room on the 21st floor had a breathtaking view of the bay, the Naval Air Station on the tip of Coronado Island and the Midway. The hotel location was ideal, close to all the major attractions, an easy walk to many, but also convenient when driving. The restaurants are typical hotel fare, ok but not great, and overpriced. The bar on the top floor is surprisingly man cave stuffy. The lobby is gorgeous but austere. If you intend to meet someone here plan on standing as they offer no seating

Room Tip: Make sure you have a view of the bay from either tower.

This hotel did a great job hosting the Baylor Bears during the Holiday Bowl. Our family felt that they handled the pep ralley, rooms, and hosting nicely.

The price is food and bar service is expensive, but everything tends to run high in Cali.

Recommend.

The hotel is very nice. The lobby bar has very slow service (even when its dead)- but that is not atypical of hotel bars.

The rooms are quite nice and the views are great. The hotel is located very well.

After staying here for a few days, we noticed that we were getting sick. It was the down comforter and pillows provided by the hotel (nice for most people, but not with allergies).

Anyways, we requested they change the comforter out to a hypoallergenic comforter. They asked us to leave the room so they could change it out. After 1.5 hrs and 3 requests, I walked down to show the night HS manager that the hotel had not in-fact changed the comforter out and our sheets had not been changed.

While insisting this was not the case, I showed her a photo of our bed that I took on my phone. She agreed to have someone come up to resolve it.

When she arrived she brought us a blue/grey wool blanket (the kind you use when watching TV on the couch- not a comforter you would sleep with). I protested and requested she bring the type of comforter that they advertise on their website that are hypo allergenic. The night HS manager insisted that all of the comforters in the building were down feathered and the best they could do was offer us a blanket for the bed.

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel if you are allergic to down feathers

Dear mantazen,
Thank you for your candid comments here on TripAdvisor. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the guest rooms and bayfront location of the hotel. However, I am sorry to learn about your recent experience with our Respire Rooms. As mentioned on our website, I do want to clarify that these rooms undergo an additional six-step process to reduce airborne particles and minimize the presence of potential irritants. This process includes installation of a state-of-the-art air purification system and treatment of all fabrics and surfaces in the guestroom. All Respire by Hyatt rooms are installed and maintained on an ongoing basis by PURE Solutions NA.

The Respire by Hyatt - Hypo-Allergenic Rooms purification process includes:

-Application of PURE Shield and PURE Clean to minimize presence of allergens on carpet, upholstery and other surfaces in the room.
-One-time shock treatment to minimize irritants.
-Complete disinfection of Air Handling Unit and Installation of removable tea tree oil cartridge to maintain these conditions.
-Installation of hypo-allergenic mattress & pillow encasings.
-Installation of a powerful air purifier by Healthway, listed as a Class II Medical device by the F.D.A.
-Recertification every six months

Although we do currently use down feathered comforters in all rooms, we are purchasing non-down feathered comforters to offer guests with sensitivity to down feathers. Thank you for your comments, as this helps us to improve.

Warmest Regards,
Kristin Helms

Dear safioz,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback after your recent stay. We are sorry to hear about your experience. You are correct, we have a dedicated pet floor reserved for our guests and their four-legged friends. We are happy to provide these pet-friendly accommodations, and also need to maintain appropriate noise levels in the guest corridors. This being said, I'm sorry how the noise level request was received. Please know I have shared your comments with our Executive Rooms Director so he can address internally. Again, thank you for providing feedback as this helps us to constantly improve ourselves.

Warmest Regards,

We stayed here with our two children for one night in December 2012. The hotel is quite large and appears to be geared towards business travelers. We got a room with 2 queen beds and a view for a bargain price (50% off of what was listed on hyatt.com) through a discount travel website.

The room was clean, well decorated, modern, and very comfortable. The hotel was in a great location for sight-seeing (walking distance to the USS Midway, Children’s museum, departure point for whale watching tours, convention center, parks, marina, restaurants, etc.). The fitness center is excellent.

I would absolutely stay here again if I could get a good rate or if I were travelling for business. Self- parking is $26 per night, there is a fee for internet usage, fee for the business center, the on-site restaurants are expensive, etc. -- so, if you are paying for all of this out of pocket, it could add up fast. Cost aside, I have no complaints. It is a lovely property.
