“Spring Visit”
Reviewed April 9, 2014

My husband and I escaped from the brutal Northeast winter for a week in the sunshine and mild temps of San Diego. Our room at the Hyatt was just what I dreamed it would be. We watched the sun set over the Bay and Pacific ocean beyond from the 8th floor balcony sitting in cushioned comfortable wicker chairs sipping some wonderful California white wines. Yes, we heard laughing and children having fun splashing in the pools and water slides below. Every one seemed to be having fun and so were we. We brought our golf clubs and played several rounds nearby at Riverwalk in Fashion Valley. My only disappointment was the impersonal greetings from the front desk staff - efficient, but not very cheerful or hospitable. We weren't expecting to pay for parking and internet, an additional $40-50 a day. I guess in large hotels this is becoming a common occurrence. Don't miss "Happy hour" at the Red Marlin restaurant. Half priced drinks and lite bites, a perfect dinner for East Coast jet lagged visitors.

Room Tip: Pay whattever it costs for a view of the Bay/Ocean from the "tower". Beautiful sunsets, lo...

They are ruthless about parking here…no on street parking unless you want to move your car for 2 hrs at 2 am. Out room next to the elevator was ridiculously noisy, but they quickly moved us. I would have left the hotel if they didn't, it was that bad.

Room Tip: ask how close to the elevator. Bldg has terrible sound proofing….you will hear people in the hallway...

Just came back from staying 4 nights at the Hyatt Mission Bay and was delighted with the overall experience. The property is very well maintained! Great pool with lots of lounge chairs! Great restaurant with ocean view! They have an Einsteins Bagels in the property so if you are in the mood for a quick breakfast or lunch, it's easily accessible! The hotel is a bit spread out and not all rooms are the same. I stayed in the tower with an ocean view and it was a great new room with contemporary furniture and lots of space. My friends stayed in the two story building. Rooms are slightly more dated and a smelled a bit musty.
I have to point out that there was excellent service all around. At the front desk, concierge, catering, or housekeeping. They went out of their way to ensure we had a good experience.
I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: If you can, try to stay in the tower. Better newer rooms, more quiet and better views.

We spent 3 days and 2 nights at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay in the SeaWorld Suite with our children and it was the perfect stay! From the time we arrived, the valet and bell men made the start of our stay very welcoming. Check in was easy and we were up in our room within 10min. The room had a bunk bed with a twin bed on top and a double on the bottom and a separate bedroom with a king bed for parents. The room had a full kitchen with a sink refrigerator and microwave, great when traveling with kids. The 3 pools and waterslides were the highlight of our trip. We ordered food and drinks from the Swim bar, the drinks were pricey, but the kids menu items were a good deal. They have a gym at the resort that has everything you need to get a good work out, both my husband and I enjoyed the full gym with the great view. Although this hotel is a little pricey, it is worth it for the amenities, and the location. Overall a great experience with exceptional service from the valet staff and the bell men, the staff at this hotel really made our stay exceptional.

Room Tip: I was told to get the best rate you need to call the Hyatt directly. I did this and saved $75 on ou...

We loved this place! My family stayed in one of the waterfront suites and it worked perfectly for us traveling with our 4-year-old and 1 1/2-year-old. They were so excited about the view of the harbor and the sea lions, and the pools and water slides were perfect. The staff was friendly and the concierge so helpful. We were able to walk to Sea World and save $15 on parking. Plus the on-site Einstein Bagels was handy. The only downside was that the room walls were a bit thin, but hey -- we were traveling with our loud kids, so the loud kids next door were no big deal to us. At least everyone was in bed by 8 p.m. :) And though others have complained about the sea lion noise, I did not think it was a big deal at all. We thought it was really funny, and it did not keep us awake. I would happily stay here again!

Room Tip: Waterfront suites have two rooms, one with a bedroom and one with a TV and pullout couch.

We spent the past weekend at this hotel with our 8 and 5 year old children. Loved the grounds, harbor view, swimming pool, spa, and general feel to the place. However, the rooms need work. We stayed in a harbor-side suite - which was huge - but they badly need to update the furniture, lighting, and carpet. The bedroom overlooking the harbor had some nice natural light, but the hallway & front sitting room were extremely dark in the evenings even with all the lights on. The bottoms of our feet/socks were black within a few minutes of walking around the room (gross.) The beds were comfortable, but the pullout sofa is old & needs replacing (it didn't lay flat when the bed was pulled out - our kids didn't mind, but adults definitely would.) Furniture is chipped & worn, wallpaper was peeling in the bathroom, patio furniture needs to be replaced - it's just time for an overall remodel!

That being said, we got over the issues with the room quickly. The kids LOVED the pool and waterslides, the bottomless soda from the pool bar - and we enjoyed the general vibe at the pool (music playing, cocktails while the kids swam, etc.) I will say there is a huge amount of wind at the pool in the afternoons (when it doesn't seem to be that windy elsewhere?) which can be chilly after you get out of the pool. I enjoyed a massage at the spa (check out the deal below) and we also had coffee/breakfast at the onsite Einstein Bros Bagels.

I would recommend this place for families if you can overlook the issues with the rooms (or if you aren't going to spend much time in the room), but would also recommend the Homewood Suites-Liberty Station - where we spent the earlier part of the week. That hotel is a better value with free parking/breakfast/weeknight dinners and has a really nice location for families with a park & plenty of restaurants nearby.

The Mission Bay Hyatt is a wonderful place to relax but be able to access all the wonders of San Diego. Conveniently located, with wonderful views, great place to stay. The food in the restaurant was high quality, great variety-loved the California wines served.
